Default arrival time at the port

Question:
In reviewing my cruise documents, I noticed that they say that you can not board until 1:00PM. However, in reading some reviews, some people have boarded earlier, around 11:30AM - 12 noon.
I have set my time to arrive at the port early, will this pose a problem???

You can normally board around noon. Although, you can't get into your cabin until around 1:00, but you can still roam around the ship and eat at the buffet while you wait.

Ditto Donna's post - we have arrived before 1pm and were able to board but not enter our cabin until later in the day. Once the time was 2pm, but it is not a big deal.

Not at all, as long as you don't plan on checking in right away and then walking onto the ship. Typically they don't begin check-in until after 11 am, then boarding around noon. It depends on how quickly the very sad departing passengers debarked the ship and how long it takes to "reset" everything. I like to arrive early too, and do not mind waiting in a queue. Good luck, Steve

Yes we have always boarded before 1PM. As stated you won't be able to get to your cabin until a bit later. That's OK just let the eating begin.

Thanks everyone for such great responses!
It is greatly appreciated!
You see, I am taking my husband on this cruise for his birthday, and another couple is going with us (it is a first cruise for all of us). For whatever reason, I have taken on the task of planning every detail (cruise, flight, excursions, dinner seating, etc...) for the group (which I don't mind until I start getting questioned as to my decisions), and in my process, have learned so much. Anyway, after reading so many comments on the fact that one can board before 1pm, I planned on purpose to arrive early, however, the other couple is questioning why I would want to arrive early when the brochure clearly states that you can not board until 1pm. The answer is this: I'm excited like crazy to get there and my "friends" at Cruisemates say I can board the ship early! Going in the cabin early doesn't matter to me, plus, I'm paying them to decorate it as a surprize for hubby! So again, thanks for the info!!!

On the cruises we have taken we always boarded early. especially when we were in floriday ports. In ny we had to wait a bit because the ship got in a little later then expected. But still we were sitting by the pool bar having our first drink around noon. On celebrity one time we got on the ship as early as 11:30. have fun.

Get there as soon as you can...we got there about 11:30. And were aboard in no time. Once onboard, make your reservations for the specialty restaurants, if you plan to do that. Also, you can sign up for any excursions that were no longer available online. We were told by RCCL that they leave about 30 percent of the excursions open for guests to sign up onboard the ship. After that, enjoy the food, tour the ship and begin your cruise!

Ok I'm a first time cruiser. I understand you pack a carry on bag. What do you do with that while your eating, roaming the ship etc. until your cabin is ready.

Unless you can just drop it off in your cabin, sometimes you can, others they won't let you, but basicallly, you have to carry it with you until you can get to your cabin and unload it.
