That's good news for RCI fans. Another home port for Freedom class and larger ships
This should add some interesting competition for Disney Cruise Line out of the same port.

Yep, that would be cool if they could. I mean the Miami port is getting a little full now, right?
If anyone here has a friend or personally knows someone who works for RCCL, maybe they could put their nose to the ground & dig up some details about it?
They did show the plans for the port, but the new terminal wasn't shown. Maybe its going to be in the lower section that's undeveloped.
Wish they would put a little puddle jumper airport there instead. :-)

Wow....could you imagine? That would be a busy monorail!
I love the one they did in Las Vegas. There's plans (although politics are in the way right now) of connecting theirs to the airport also. Though theirs looks like its going to happen within the next 10 years.
Monorails are the way of the future.

I'm not at liberty to give any specifics, but expect a HUGE shuffling of RCI ships in 2009. As soon as I'm "allowed" to give details I'll be sure to post them here.
I'll bet they're constructing it with the Genesis class ships in mind, too!!!
Port Canaveral is one of the nearest ports to me (when are they going to build a port in Atlanta??? ) and I can't wait for the Genesis class ships. We looked at the Voyager class or the Freedom class, and it really seems like the Freedom class is just an extended version of the Freedom, with the wave thing. So, we saved a little money and went for the Explorer. The Genesis ships are supposed to be "new and different"...wish I could find out more!

I like the monorail idea, mainly because parking is a pain at Canaveral and they charge way too much to park. It wont happen though. Having departed from this place twice now I am personally sick of it, and Im not making the trip again for the Soveriegn or the Glory, the Sovereign is so old you might as well paddle to the Bahamas. The Glory is ok, but you can get the same thing in Miami or Ft Lauderdale on similiar ships.
The only unique thing is that Disney uses Canaveral.
Well, eventually they'll ditch Sovereign to someone else & they'll use it up & then off to....India is it? To be cut up & scrapped.
Eventually the upkeep on this ship won't be worth it anymore. It's like an old car that keeps breaking down. Financially just won't be worth keeping it. Probably already depreciated to its maximum value by now.

I agree, its just a matter of time for the old girl, but didn't they refurbish her a year or two ago?
They will run that ship into the ground to recoup their investment in it.
It was bad though, there was major rust all over the place on the hull, Im not talking about the normal rust patches, Im talking about the rust that grows out in clumps through the paint and looks like a big lump, eeek.
All I know is RCCL gave me vouchers because the toilets were stinking up the deck I was on, which made me happy :-)
The Majesty is a better ship and was just refurbed, Im taking it for my Bahamas getaways from now on.
Did I see someone above mentioned Vegas! I'm due for a Vegas 5 niter. Vegas is a good in between cruises getaway.

I heard that from various posts on here & over on the other big cruise board about the smell. Dave the Wave is on this ship or I should say, is on his way home as we speak.
We're going on it in July, after coming off Serenade 2 years ago, I'm sure this ship will seem smaller. But that's ok, its always fun to travel on a grand lady of her time!

I was on this ship this past December before Christmas. Ship was decorated beautifully for the holidays but it did smell really bad up on the pool deck by the frozen yogurt machine. Smelled like old wet carpet that needed to be replaced. No smells in the cabin though. Bob
