I have many questions as this is my first time cruising with my children 7 & 10
-do the kids have to order off the children's menu during dinner
-how safe is it to book excursions yourself and not go through the cruise line
-anyone have a whale boat recommendation for Halifax
-can my son (7) wear nice shorts and a button down shirt to dinner?
-how reasonable is the laundry service we will be onboard 9 nights?
-any advise from someone who has been on this cruise?
-Anyone have a suggestion for Saint Johns Bay we are wanting to do something that involves the Bay of Fundy but to book through the cruise for the four of us is over $400 . . . I know I read a post about Halifax having multiple things at the pier and it is a waste of money to book through the cruise line but I am having a hard time finding things about Saint John??

I can answer only 2 of your questions.

I have seen kids with nice shorts and a shirt (not tshirt) at dinner. (of course not on formal nite).

Kids do not have to order from the kids menu. My kids never do. They always order seafood, rack of lamb, prime rib. Save the hamburgers and mac and cheese for home.

I have not been on the Grandeur however my sister has a few years ago and loved it.

thanks a lot that is very helpful information and it sounds like our kids are very similar as mine also like to eat outside the "box" . . . I only asked because when we did the dining program during a Disney vacation in December the kids 10 and under were only allowed to order off the kids menu which was not pleasing especially to my 10 year old daughter!

Wow I did not know Disney Cruises did that. I can easily put some burgers on the grill at home. I also advise the waiter day 1 that the kids don't need kids menus they will be ordering from the adult menu. The waiters are fine with that and if the kids don't like anything they order the waiter brings him something else.

Shrimp, lobster, rack of lamb, prime rib, even escargot! save burgers and hot dogs and mac and cheese for home.

Sorry for the misunderstanding but it was a WDW vacation not a Disney Cruise line. WDW now offers a meal plan that was wonderful and very cost effective but the kids did not get to choose!
