I've sailed on Explorer of the Seas twice in 2006 and I'm booked on her again this year - the Christmas/New Years cruise. If I can find a cruise that fits my summer schedule I'm going to book a summer 2007 cruise, too.
I LOVE this ship!!! The staff is very friendly - I made sure to visit the cabin steward and waiter from my first cruise the second time I sailed. There were several bartenders that I cannot wait to see again - hope they're sailing over the holidays.
Never once did I feel crowded. There is so much to do onboard. The only problem was finding a deck chair on our first day at sea, but that was my fault for not getting up early to grab one.
I often hear people complain about the quality of the food on some ships, but I never had a problem with the food on Explorer. But then again I'm not one to complain about the food - you try to cook for 2000+ people!!
The shows were great with the exception of the magician - when you can figure out the tricks then you know something's wrong!! This guy would have done well at a children's party, but not performing for adults.
The cruise director on the first cruise was FANTASTIC!!!! Although I can't remember his name right now. He went on vacation and wasn't on my second cruise that year - it was some woman and she just didn't have that extra "zing" that the guy did.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask me.

Not this year, doing the 8/31 to NE/Canada - but we did take this same trip last year on the same week - it was great!
Have yiou checked your itinerary? I did post a separate posting. You will NOT be stopping at Newport! YOu will be in New London CT instead. We go on 9/14 but ALL the 07 Canada cruises canged this week. RCCL has not notified anyone yet. See my separate post or send me a PM.
I just returned from the Explorer's 5 day to Bermuda from Bayonne cruise. There have been several earlier posts on this ship. Seems like overall it has high approval ratings. Our cruise was terrific. Personally, I wouldn't go to Bermuda in September though. Last time I did so it rained four out of the eight days we were there (it was a honeymoon so we had a great time anyway..............)
Relax guys. New London CT is not far from Newport RI. The excursions will be the same.
Agreed but it's THree hours extra on Bus (RT) and Price is $100., not $48 and you can't get there without buying RCCL's Shore Excursion (Can you see 50 passenger busses taking 3100 people on local roads to Newport?
We'll see what happens. I was just alerting folks in case they didn't know. Apparantly RCCL is in no hurry to tell anyone. No TAs knew until the Board members told them.
we are booked for this cruise on sept. 9-14 also. i have heard wonderful things about this ship and i am anxious to sail. we usually sail on 7-9 day cruises so this will be different. quincy

Someone on another Newsgroup just posted that she got a call from RCI when she threated to go to the Media. They recorded her conversation. Apparantly they never thought to see if Newport could hanle a BIG ship before they advertised and took final payments on the cruises! Only Yesterday did they fax travel agents to let them know Newport is no longer a port on our cruise.
And, if you look for optional excursions on your New London itinerary, then you'll see none are listed as of now. Wow RCCL sure bothched this one. Hope they can get it straightened out. They even have to adjust the port taxes cause NL is less than Newport! Can you imagine???
After my post I realized that you fgolks are discussing a cruise on Explorer fro Septermer 9 through Sept 14! Of course we are hoing on SEptember 14th to CANADA. And September 14th is written as 9-14 right? So I was confused. So as you folks get off at Cape Liberty we will be in line to get ON!!! Don't leave anything behind<g>.
Sorry for confusion. Anyone else LEVING on Sept 14th?
