Default The cost of cruising is going UP!

Last January we booked a cruise for January 2008, while on the Splendour of the Seas. We got the current rate and a $100 on-board credit for booking.

I have been watching the RCI website, hoping to see the rates drop. The rate, for the same cabin category, is now $700 higher than what we booked! WOW!

P.S. Please forgive my "happy fingers" typo in the Subject

That's one of the joys of booking a year out, we do the same.

The costs of cruises fluctuates much like airline fares (not as often of course). Our last cruise on the Freedom Of The Seas out of Miami to the Western Caribbean was originally on the cheap side about two months before embarkation. I played the waiting game, waiting for the fare to drop. On a Sunday night I checked and there were 17 cabins available. One night later all cabins were gone. Four days later there were a few back available but at double the fare. I kept checking back for another three weeks and no dice. I was about to give up on this cruise and made one last check about 20 days prior, and lo and behold there were cabins available at the lowest price yet. I booked them direct with RCI and the next night the price had once again doubled ! I wound up with a decent upgrade in cabin and had a great time earlier this month. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this state of affairs, but as a capitalistic society its supply and demand, or something like that. Like I have said before, if you are flexible, (VERY flexible) you can play cruise fare chicken and sometimes make out on the deal.

I think it could have something to do with less cabins available out of Miami, thanks to a lot of ships going to Europe. Like the airlines the more seats to a destination the less the cost, but the less, the more it costs...Kind of a bummer actually.
