Default Serenade OTS balcony facing side or aft in Alaska?

We finally have an opportunity to cruise to Alaska!!! However, it is late booking, so few cabins are available. I understand that aft facing balconies provide good views. Is this true in Alaska as well, or are you better able to see from a side facing balcony on the port side (we will be heading south primarily).

The choice that we have is between two aft located balconies, one is on the side and the other is facing aft. Both are on deck seven. The side facing is an E1, the aft facing is a D1. There is a price differnece of about $1300.00.

Which would you choose?

Take the aft facing balcony, then you get a view of both sides.

Save the $1300. You didn't say which was more. The view depends on which way you are going....

Default Sorry!

The D1 facing aft is more. If it were the other way around, I think that I would take the aft facing D1 without worrying about it too much. The E1 is almost all the way aft, but facing the side with the view of land. Part of the problem that I have with the E1 is that there seems to be something outside the E1 between the balcony and the water that may make the view feel more distant.
As it stands now, though, I think that I will have to take your advice and go with the E1.

Thanks for helping me decide everyone.

I LOVE the aft facing balconies. Much larger balcony then the E1 and more sq. feet in the cabin. BUT look at all the places you could spend that money on making your trip more enjoyable. If it was a small price difference, which it is when you book early, it would be a no-brainer. I think you will be happy with the E1 as long as you pamper yourself with an excursion you may not have done with the "savings."

Go ahead and take the aft balcony, I think you'd get the opportunity to see both side and back views. You will spend a good amount of time on your balcony in Alaska, may as well take advantage of it and enjoy!

Default Thanks, everyone!

OK, I've decided not to go aft. The money difference is just too much for me. I'll do all my shore excursions and have money left over with the difference.

Thanks for all your help deciding. I agree that the aft would be nicer. Now, if only the price on the D1's would drop a few hundred.....or even a thousand, then i could be persuaded to switch.
