AOS Best snorkeling spots?
Aruba, Curacao, St. Martaan, St Thomas - Where are the best snorkeling spots? We are planning on going it alone instead of using the excursions. Or - if you had a great snorkeling excursion - which one? Sailing 7/21/07.

Hi Jerber,
When you are in St. Thomas, you can take the Red Hook Ferry over to St. John/Trunk Bay and you'll find some really good snorkeling along with a beautiful island. You'll need to take a car from the pier to the ferry and then, once on St. John another short taxi ride to the beach. It does require some travel time, but well worth it. |
I totally agree with Donna- grab a cab at the pier head out to Red Hook Harbor and then grab the water taxi over to St. John Island, there are plenty of beautiful beaches to choose from on St. John Island all a short cab ride from the pier- go to www.vinow.com for ferry schedules and beach information.
St. Maarten - we took a ships excursion for our beach/snorkel adventure we did the Golden Eagle Catamaran - we loved that. I have heard the Pineal Island has some good snorkeling but i can't give you first-hand info on that. Curacao- there is a nice beach with decent snorkeling at the Sea Aquarium |

Aruba: Snorkeling over the sunken WWII German Freighter Antilla Curacao: Beautiful coral and ship wrecks. Around Seaquarium is good, near the Princess hotel, or an excursion over a sunken tug St. Martin: Pinel Island, Bay Rouge, etc. St. Thomas: Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach, Secret Harbor St. John: Trunk Bay, Watermelon Cay, Maho, Honeymoon, etc. I like Trunk for the sheer number of fish, the tugboat in Curacao for the coral, and the WWII freighter in Aruba is a unique experience. |
Thanks for the great info - we fly to PR tomorrow with your suggestions and our snorkel gear in tow!
