Default considering RCI cruise...

I recently did my first cruise with my teenage son on Carnival Sensation and am now planning a 7-day eastern or southern caribbean cruise to take on my own or with a singles group. I'm looking at RCI ad NCL. For those who have cruised these RCI itineraries, which ship do you recommend for someone who is 48, divorced and wants to avoid the 20-30 something loud/drinking/obnoxious crowds? Also do any of these itineraries sail on an RCI ship that has an adults only pool? Thanks!

Michelle: in general - all short cruises 3-4 day cruises are party cruises; where there seems to be more drinking and partying; since you are looking at a longer cruise, you should have less of a party crowd on any of the cruise lines. However, since you were not fond of the Carnival activities, I would suggest a cruise line that necessarily doesn't have those type of activities (Royal Carribbean's activities are virtually identical to Carnival; (hairy chest is replaced with the belly flop); some pool games, quest etc). maybe NCL, Holland or Princess would be a better choice (certainly other CM's have feedback on those lines)

also since you said you have nerve damage in your leg; keep the ship size small to medium; because frankly their tends to be a wait for elevators on all the cruise ships; just as with a hotel at any resort (vegas not included, they have the elevator thing mastered!)

also since heat & humidity is not your thing, I would begin to pluck the minds of other Cruisemates concerning sailings that go somewhere where the climate is more suited to you. you indicated that you like photography and cooler weather; anyone thinking Alaska

Martha, Thanks for the excellent points you made! I actually do want to do the warm climate, but at a better time of year (i.e. during the winter!)
I will also just have to relax and wait for the elevators, I tend to be a bit impatient but am working on it!

If the longer cruises do have a better (more mature) crowd, then I will certainly consider Carnival as well as NCL and RCI itineraries.

if you sailing during the winter months - expect some ship motion; stronger currents in the winter months/northerly winds, etc - this is the only time I have ever felt movement on a ship that almost bothered me - --

and almost all cruise lines have a more mature crowd in the winter months as many snowbirds are escaping the cold.

The big RCCL ships have adults only pool area which is nice. Also to consider for a more adult passenger clientele would be Princess.

I too would probably pick Princess, or NCL for you Michelle. Having read all your comments after your recent cruise, I think that those lines might suit you better. You might also want to consider the slightly smaller ships, as that may make it easier on your leg. Whatever you decide, I know you'll have a great time.
