Default cruising the mariner

Good Afternoon everyone,

My family and I will be cruising on the Mariner soon. We have been on the Voyager and had a great time. Do you have any cruise advice for us to enhance our experience as much as possible? We are staying across from Port Canaveral the night before. Any pre-cruise, cruise, or island advice? We have never been to St. Maarten. Also, we will be using the internet for the first time on a cruise ship. Price wise and speed wise - is it better to use a laptop with a wire for the internet or wireless on the laptop?
My next, and most important question. Is there any way to contact/email someone aboard the ship before we sail. We have a personal but important question/issue, and would like to speak to someone before we sail (it could be anyone - the hotel or assistant hotel director, the concierge, the guest relations manager, the ship coordinator, etc.) Any help with that would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for everything, and I look forward to hearing from you.

-Matt

Hey, Matt. I've been on the Mariner twice and you will love her!

Not sure about the Mariner's internet but when I was on the Glory, you had to use your laptop or their stationary desktops. The price for the service was the same though I think those needing a wireless card for their laptops paid a small one-time fee in addition to the service charge, which was very expensive. I believe it was something like $90 for 180 minutes. I imagine it will be pretty much the same on the Mariner. I hope that someone else can post more info for you.

As for contacting someone on board, depending on what it is, you might be able to get RCI customer service/reservations to email the ship on your behalf to find out/arrange whatever it is you may need. It's worth a try. On HAL, I once wanted to find out what the "obstruction" was on a balcony cabin since it was not near the life boats. They emailed the ship and the following day I received a message that it was a steel support beam which had no real impact on the view. I was quite impressed they took the time to do that.

Hope you get more answers. Have a great cruise!

We did Mariner in April & saw St Marteen, which my wife & I found to be one of the more enjoyable eastern Carib Islands, of the many we've seen... very colorful, local shops were friendly and will bargin w/o being aggresive. My wife found that handbags, scarfs, clothing were much cheaper there then St Thomas, though some of what you'll see is cheap quality.

The dutch side is an 10 min walk, very pretty...BUT caution the locals will approach you, very friendly, but trick you into a time share visit thru a ruse of a lottery.

The beach and "boardwalk" was very nice...jet skis, etc, sidewalk cafes for lunch and drink...walk down main street and get a flavor of the island too.

One other thing I highly recommend...wake up early and watch the Capt bring that massive 1100 foot ship into the tiny harbor, where other cruise ships are already moored, make the tight straboard turn and dock flawlessley...really worth getting up that early...trust me.

Have a great time...you'll enjoy St Marteen.

As I said, we really enjoyed St Marteen & will return.

Default Mariner

Hi..Mariner was our favorite 2 times out of 8 on the voyager class....book excursion early on the net, only used internet a few times with free coupons- we were on vacation didnt need to get intouch with anyone.
Megans bay is a waste...local beach but dirty....We liked the 4x4 beach excursion...nice tour you drive the jeep and stop at the beach....It was topless if you have young kids....nice clean town...by sky lift tickets on line a couple of dollars cheaper...

We went out on the Mariner last week - Aug 12th and had a great time. We also stayed in the Port the night before. Had dinner at Fishlips and had the best scallops rosoto that I have ever had. A bit hard to find but if you follow all the people going to the casino cruise right there in the port, it is right next door.
