Default Staying in Miami

Hi all!! Quick question for ya. We just booked a cruise on the Liberty for 10/11/08 and we figured we may as well stay in Miami the night before (we did it when we took the Mariner in 10/05 but that was out of Port Canaveral). Does anyone have any suggestions of what hotel to stay in? We have never been there and we would like something clean and that possibly has a complimentary ride to port.

Thanks!

There are lots of nice hotels in Miami close to the port. YOu may want to try Priceline and bid on a 3 Star in downtown Miami, you can save quite a bit that way. Most of the hotels don't have transportation to the port, but depending on what hotel you are at, its a short taxi ride. You will also have Bayside Market place close by to spend some time the night before, dinner, shopping, etc.

We used Priceline last June when we sailed on the Freedom
out of Miami. Bid on 4 star and got Intercontinental, at the time
of checkin paid alittle more for a bay view and got an awesome
room overlooking the port.

Woke up early to see the Freedom coming in, and saw her in
the turn basin. Wow....looked like a building!

It was an unforgettable trip, including the wonderful exeperience
at the Intercontinental. Yes we went to Bayside for dinner the
night before.

We are staying at La Quinta East. They have free airport shuttle and free shuttle to the port of Miami.

DON'T stay at the Radison Downtown. We stayed in July of last year before our cruise. There are no words to describe how awful it was. Dirty rooms, rude staff, got stuck in the elevator. It was so bad I actually filed a complaint with the BBB when we got back. And I'm usually a really laid-back person. It was just so bad.

Just be careful when you are walking around at night. On the news channel here in the Northeast (MSNBC), they were reporting alot of people getting robbed around the Bayside area.

A tourist couple (non-cruisers) were held up at gunpoint just last week, but that was like at 1am.

For non-city folks, always watch your back. Use store windows to see who is behind you, don't wear flashy jewerely and don't carry alot of cash on you. If you can, don't carry a purse either.

The downtown area isn't bad, its quiet nice & modern. However, the outskirts of the city is really bad with alot of low income areas.

Default Miami Hotel

I have stayed at the Intercontinental several times. Close to the port, beautiful bay views and never had a problem around Bayside. Not sure about price as I have always used hotel points.

We really love the Intercontinental Hotel in MIami. It's right across the street from Bayside and the area is safe (of course, in any city, you must be on your toes). But we stayed there last week prior to our Freedom of the Seas cruise and we walked to and from Bayside at night with no problem. The cab ride from MIA is approx. $25/cab and to the port it's about $10/cab. It tends to be a fairly pricey hotel, so if you can get it for under $250/night, that's a good deal.

The InterContinental is a wonderful hotel. If you use Priceline, bid 4 star downtown Miami. I've had great luck getting that hotel for $100 - $120 per night.

We just stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites/Miami Airport. Highly recommended. Gorgeous suite (separate bedroom, kitchenette, two tv's) and just $116.00 per night ($131 with taxes), AAA or AARP rate.

We rented a car overnight from Thrifty. Picked it up at the airport and when we returned it the next day, took the Thrifty shuttle (free) to the port.

We booked through the Hyatt web site. Cheaper than paying the extra fees at Travelocity or Expedia.

Default Can't remember the name..

My sister and I planned our whole trip around transportation. We opted to stay at a cheap hotel that wasn't near the beach like we originally wanted. I wish I could remember the name, but if you google local hotels I am sure you will find it, sorry.

Anyways, they pick you up at the airport at no charge. They have a salsa club inside the hotel that was giving lessons the night we stayed. The hotel itself is old and not the cleanest place, but all we needed was a place to sleep.

There isn't anywhere great to see or eat within walking distance, but the front desk was nice enough to tell us about an Italian Restaurant on South Beach that would come pick you up in a limo and bring you back (at no charge) as long as you ate dinner at the restaurant.

Well, we did that, the food was great, and you were allowed to walk around South Beach as long as you were back to the restaurant by midnight for them to take you back. So, not only did we get free transportation from the airport to the hotel, we also got a limo ride to and from dinner and still got to go to the beach and see some things.

The next morning, they transport you to the pier (at no charge) and drop you off. On the way home from the cruise, we booked the everglades tour and they picked us up at the dock, took us to the Everglades, and when that was done dropped us off at the airport at, you guessed it, no charge!

We just didn't want all of our money eaten up by taxi fair and this seemed like a reasonable arrangement. If I think of the name of the hotel I will repost, but it was something along the lines of a Holiday Inn or Days Inn. Nothing fancy.
