We will be sailing on the Jewel of the Seas leaving from Southampton on October 30th for the repositioning back to Ft. Lauderdale. We booked our own transportation to Gatwick. What is the best economical way to get from Gatwick to Southampton?

Thanks for the advice to take a cab..... but I asked for an "economical" way. I believe that a cab ride from Gatwick to Southampton would be quite costly, compared to taking a train or a bus (coach for our British friends!)
National Express runs coaches from LGW (Gatwick) north and south term. to Southampton several times a day, unfortunately there is not many nonstops - most of the time travel is VIA Heathrow airport, but thats on the way anyway.
a ticket should be around GBP15,- so definitely A LOT cheaper than a cab.
check out the website, where you can also book electronic tickets www.nationalexpress.co.uk
will see you on board ;-) of the jewel i guess..
regards from rainy germany

We took the bus from LHR to Southampton. From the coach station in Southampton, you will need a taxi from there to the hotel or pier. We had a non-stop bus and it was like 1-1/4 hours (IIRC).
From LGW, you are looking at close to a four hour bus ride.

Paul, thanks for the tip, but we find it hard enough just crossing the street in the U.K., never mind driving 2 hours on the "wrong" side of the road! The last thing that we would want to do is have an accident on the road going to the ship! Anyone know anything about taking a train from GTW to Southampton?

Here is a link for you (tapped it in for 30th October)....this is the train timetable from Gatwick to Southampton. Assume you are staying overnight in Southampton? You can just get a cab from the train station to your hotel.
