Default Key West question

This is my first time in KW and we arrive into port at 7 am and are only there until 2 pm.

Does anyone know if there is anything open this early or can I take my time getting off the ship if most things open around 9ish.

Thanks for the info!
Michell

most of the museums open at 9:00 am and 10:00 am; generallly I don't rush to get off the ship, I eat a good sit down breakfast in the main dining room and then take my time walking from the drop off point to the various places I want to see.

Also, believe it or not, some of the bars open at 9:00 am and 10:00 am

If you know what places you want to visit, see if they have a website that lists their hours. for instance, the Hemingway House has a webiste that shows that they open at 9:00 am

I can vouch for the bars being open early! This was about 10 Am and the pregnant jelly shot girl was selling shots. We happened into a Parrot Head convention!

If you are a true parrot head, you must visit Captain Tony's bar where JB got his start

We were in Cap Tony's, Bear Bottom Saloon, Sloppy Joes and the Hogs Breath that day.

I also noticed lots of neat bars in Key West. Nice little town to take a walk around if you are there before things open up.

I would say I am a true parrot head and would love to visit captain tony's, but how "rough" is it? I will have my 12 and 9 yo daughters, who I might add are little parrot heads, although they think JB is a new artist.

Parrot heads are generally fun loving nice people. It is the fantasy Fest crown I would worry about.

Yes. I just recently found out about Fantasy Fest. At least we are only there until 2 that day. Who knows, maybe my girls will have more for show and tell when they get back than they bargained for!

We were planning on just going to the Mel Fisher museum and Hemingway house (oldest just did big project on Hemingway). I have lived in FL all my life and never been to the keys. Any other suggestions? Anyway to tell if there are any parrothead functions going on around town?

Thanks for all the input!

You didn't mention (unless I missed it) when you are cruising. Sounds like you have a good plan though. The crazy stuff will get going as the day wears on. That early in the day most of the wild partiers and trannies will still be sleeping in.

I highly recommend the pub crawl excursion, it's worth every penny and you get to know KW if you've never been there....

We go to key west most every December....great time of day there is the morning when things are fresh...most places are open by 10am at the latest. If you have never been there, hop on the Conch Train for a great tour !

Default Captain Tony's

The ceiling is covered in "donated" bras.
That is the roughest it gets there.

It is our favorite bar in KW, hands down!!!!!!!!

Just got back from a one day trip to Key West...we drove down there...

Went to Irish Kevin's, Margaritaville, Sloppy Joe's, Hog's Breath, Island Dogs, and the Drunken Parrot bar. All different atmospheres, and we were there during the Parrothead Convention/Meeting of the Minds. They were all upbeat, friendly, and fun!

We had a great lunch at Old Town Mexican Cafe! Beautiful little shaded patio restaurant on Duval.
