Default Any tips for dealing with Port Canaveral

We will be on the MOS on 12/16. We will be driving from Disney. THis is our first time sailing from Canaveral. Are there any tips that might be helpful in navigating a new departure port? I think I read somewhere that parking is $12 a day. WOW. What is the earliest people have been able to board?
Thanks

You won't have any problems with Port Canaveral. It's far less crowded than Ft. Lauderdale, or Miami, and second only to Tampa for ease of embarkation/debarkation. Only once in about 10 cruises out of there have we experienced any delay. As for the $12 per day parking, that isn't bad. We just paid $15 per day at Ft. Lauderdale! It's getting just a little bit expensive to park there!
Have no fear. You'll like Port Canaveral. It's well marked, and relatively easy.

Thanks Ken. We want to make the most out of our cruise thus want to board as soon as possible. We are planning on leaving WDW early and driving to the ship. At this port, what is the earliest we can probably board the ship?

Carolina: You'll love the Mariner...did the Oct. 14th Eastern. It was
our second time onboard MOS. Port Canaveral is the easiest port to
navigate. parking is normal fee and you can be dropped off w/luggage,
the driver can easily walk back to terminal after parking.

We boarded early for a wedding....anyway it was supposed to be early, but on that day it was just minutes before noon. Don't know if there was
a problem that day, as we all thought we'd be able to board earlier.
Good luck and I know you'll have a fun cruise.

PC is very easy, there's only 1 place to park. You enter in the parking lot, pay the fee & you can park your car outside or inside the parking garage.

Park inside the parking garage, it'll keep your car cooler. It's very safe! You can view my photo's of it over on webshots.com under Cassie4486. Look for the Sovereign cruise.

On a "normal" day, they will start to board folks at about 11:30. I wouldn't plan on being there too much before that. You might arrive at 11 and that will give you time to drop off the checked luggage, and park the car, then head for check in.
I know you'll enjoy your cruise. "Mariner" is a beautiful ship.

I know I'm late with a reply but maybe this will help someone else in the future sailing from Port Canaveral. We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites which is very close to the Port. They let you park your car there for free while you're on your cruise and take their shuttle to the port. The shuttle was $5 per person! Sure beat paying $12 a day for parking at the port & the shuttle lets you off right at the perfect spot.

I have often wondered if leaving your car in a hotel parking lot for , in our case, 11 days is a good idea. We have never done it. Not sure I would want the hotel staff to know my car was there and would not be missed for 11 days. Has anyone else left their car in a hotel parking lot during their cruise? Any problems? It would be a very sad ending to a cruise to return and find your car missing or vandalized.

Please understand, I am not being critical of cruisers who do this. Like I said, we have never done it but have thought about doing it. Good idea or bad idea

We have left our car in the Country Inn and Suites parking
lot in Port Canaveral and taken the shuttle...no problem at all
and also in Fort Lauderdale, but I don't remember the hotel.

These hotels seem to get the majority of their business catering
to the pre and post cruise passengers. Even tho, the lot is not
secure, I think if there was an incident the hotel employees would
be the first questioned.

Has anyone had any problems with this arrangement?

I know sometimes cars have been vandalized in cruise terminal
parking lots. You just have to take your chances.
