Default Freedom surf rider, what restrictions?

We have never cruised RCL, and have only cruised once on Carnival Sensation and we swore we would never do that again.
Well, the commercials have lured us into looking in to a cruise on the Freedom of the Seas.
I have an adventurous hubbie and a 16 year old and an 11 year old. They want to do the flow rider---over and over and over.
1) Do you just que in line like an amusement park?
2) Can you just get back in to line?
3) What are the hours of operation for the surf thing?
4) Is there an age limit, or height or weight?
5) Are the wet suits you see on tv provided, is there a rental charge?
6) How busy is it---is it the thing everyone rushes to on the boat and you only get to do it a few times the whole cruise?
Any other pointers???

THANKS FROM A NEWBIE!

BUMP!
I am just dying to hear from those that have done the flow rider and what tips you may have and answers to my questions in the original post.

Thanks so much--

I would be disapointed if we were only able to do this once or twice the whole cruise. Or my 11 year would not be able to do it because of age, height or weight.

Hi Iowa Girl,
Every day, you'll need to sign in for the flowrider, get a wrist band and you can use it as long as they are in operation. Check the cruise compass for their hours each day. Yes, you can go as long as you can, once you fall off, your turn is over, but feel free to get back in line again and again. Some people can stay on longer, others not, so you wait your next turn. They have dual sides, so either one works. Just wear a regular swim suit, the girls may want to have an extra t-shirt over, the pull of the water can take suits up or down :-) Its very forceful and whips you up to the top in seconds.

Its great fun and it should be fine for your 11 year old, no problem.

In addition to Donna's post-there is a time period each day set aside for adults only(it is not for very long) and they do belly boards during the day and stand up surfboards later in the afternoon and at night. You can ride over and over again-the line moves quickly. It is a lot of fun, and when you wipe out you do get thrown around a bit but the flow rider is well padded and safe to do. The water comes at you at about 32 mph and if you are good enough you can really tame the surf ! Have fun !

Thank you, Thank you!

Now I just need to convince my active family that this cruise would be right for us.

It is too bad that our only taste of cruising on the Carnival Sensation disapointed us so. The kids program was dismal, and the pools inadequate for the thousands on the boat. So they are still not sold that this boat would be a significantly different experience.

Thanks Again!

Hi Iowagirl,
There WILL be a huge difference in those ships, you can hardly compare the two, hope you can convince them to go, they will love it.

Iowagirl, I personally would not care for the larger ships such as Freedom, but for your family I think it would be great....... and you will like RCCL better than Carnival IMHO!

For anyone using the FlowRider, I would suggest board shorts & tee shirt. The kids program on RCCL is incredible for all ages. The waterpark will make you revert to childhood! Freedom is a beautiful ship. Book it for them. They WILL thank you for it. We've done Carnival too & it doesn't compare... Two completely different 'classes'

Just an FYI, once you wipeout, the force of the water really pushes you back up to the top, so a good reason for girls to wear t-shirts over your swimsuit.

Sensation to Freedom is like roadside Motel 6 to the Atlantis resort in Nassau.

DTW--Thanks for the perspective on comparing the Sensation to a Motel 6

We actually compared it to being at Wal Mart on a Saturday afternoon for 5 days straight.

People pushing and shoving, and not really having anywhere to go

I posted this musing a few years ago on the Carnival page and a many were outraged that I did not find the Sensation to be great. I was deemed too picky....

I think we are ready to try the Freedom!
