Default Parking at Port of Miami

12/15/07 Hi all.
We are sailing out of Miami on RC for 10 days leaving 1/11/2008. The parking at The Port of Miami is $20 per day & we were wondering if anyone knew of anywhere else to park that would be less expensive. Last year we cruised out of Port Canaveral and if you stay at the Country Inn & Suites they let you park there for free & take a shuttle to the dock. Does anyone know of any hotels that do that around Miami? Has anyone ever parked at the airport during their cruise? Did it work out ok?
Thanks for all your help!
Happy Cruising!
Dorothy

There are a couple of hotels in the Miami area that offer a shuttle to the port but they are none that you would want to stay at. They get horrible reviews from fellow cruisers and tripadvisor.

Park at the port and have your car there when you get off the ship.

Go to parknfly.com and look up the rates for MIA - you can park for a week for under $60. But then you have to get yourselves to the pier & back (about $25 by cab each way...), in the end you only save about $30.

The ship might have a cruise terminal shuttle that is cheaper. Or many hotels do now offer free parking if you stay there a few days.

Or there may be parking lots downtown Miami where a week is about $60, then a cab would be much cheaper.

Check out THIS page: https://www.miamiparking.com/maps/ProximitySearch.asp

Miami Parking Authority has lots for $60/month very close to the pier. But I would call first to see if you can actually park for just one week.

Thanks for your reply Paul...you've given us lots of ideas to check out!

Philly Girl....we do need to stay in Miami at least 1 night maybe 2. What hotels are you saying we should stay away from?
Thanks again to both of you for your replys!

Phillygirl - one of the hotels that has received good reviews is the Hilton Miami Airport.

They offer breakfast and to drop you off at the port.

Another hotel, Courtyard Miami Airport West (not South!) also offers a pre-cruise package which includes breakfast and takes you to the port.

As far as tripadvisor? If there's 30 review in a row all with negative reviews, I might ignore the hotel.

However, if I'm reading about whiners that complain about a burn hole in the drape, a piece of dirt in the corner of the room that no vacuum can get to, Miami noises, food sucks, bellhops, front desk people & pathetic complaints like that, then I ignore the poster(s).

If half those people ever tried to work for a hotel, they would learn MORE as to what goes on behind the scenes of running one.

Miami isn't much different than NYC other than the obvious beach/weather. Noise will always abound, construction will continue to happen, bugs in any form will be found, room might not be available, etc.
Habitual whiners drive me nuts. And people who post on there who stayed at the hotel over a year ago should not be posting complaints because how legit are they? Can't take the past & compare to the present.

Or in one case...when the hotel didn't even exist anymore!

There's a ton of stuff to do, just depends on what you like to do. Museums, parks, a few animal parks, history, etc.

Go to any search engine, type in Miami, FL & browse at some of the links. Might take a bit of time researching. Or if you have a bookstore in your town, grab an hour or so & browse through the travel section & make notes of things to see. It's a big city.

Since you are leaving in January, the weather should not be too hot down there. But it might be a bit warmer than what you are use to, so keep that in mind when walking around. Have fun!!!
