If you will be cruising soon, since it's high season, prices will be higher, but, try Amerisuites, on 17th St. This is right near the port..But Hotwire and Priceline may be the way to go, with the previous posters advice for checking before you bid.

Fred-tons of choices and all you might get here is a million opinions that will clutter your decisionmaking process. Better off to use one of the discount travel sites and put your search in for location. It will give you all the information you want with distances, etc.
We booked a rental car through Hotwire(quite cheap in Florida outside of the big holiday times) and picked it up at the airport. This gave us the opportunity of staying at a nice and less expensiev hotel away from the cruiseport (all way over priced becuase of the demand created by the ships) plus gthe ability to tour/shop Fort Lauderdale. Then we returned the car, we took the car rental companies free shuttle to the cruiseport.
