That is true as of Jan 1. You can smoke on the balcony if you have one. Other wise you have to go out on deck, the casino, and some of the lounges have a smoking section.

Default NOT ALL of their Ships...YET

Rule is not in place, yet, for Rhapsody of the Seas.
It will be when she begins her summer in Alaska

Amen! no smoking in the rooms! About time. Nothing worse than the stench of cigarette smoke on clothes!

And it will cost you $250 to clean your room if you get caught.

As per RCI website:

Q: What is the Smoking Policy onboard?

A: Effective January 2008, smoking is only permitted in designated areas and outdoors on the Starboard side of the ship (contact the Guest Relations Desk for details). Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, hallway or corridor. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, however, it is permitted on private outdoor balconies of balcony staterooms. A $250 penalty will be applied to the SeaPass for guests found smoking in staterooms. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

The new policy will go into effect aboard 18 of 21 ships initially, with Legend of the Seas, Rhapsody of the Seas and Splendour of the Seas following suit with the 2008 summer season.

I would love to cruise on a SMOKE-FREE ship.

Hmmmm....just wondering..is there a outside deck near inside stateroom cabins # 8349 ? Can you smoke at the outside pool area ?
Also, didn't see...is there a laundry facility, also an iron/board..?
Thanks.

You can smoke at the outside pool area on one side of the ship (varies from ship to ship, but will be clearly marked) as well as outside on all decks (again, one side of the ship only). Check the deck plans for the closest outdoor deck to your cabin.

There is no self-serve laundry facility on any ship - irons are strictly prohibited. However, pressing is about half the price of laundering and both are quite reasonable.

You do not mention which ship you are on so #8349 is relative. No, you can not smoke in the laundry room. Starboard side is the norm although I found the mariner to be the port side of the pooldeck.

Had to laugh at the last comment...No, I had no intentions of smoking in a laundry room...lol.
It was another question I had..We are doing the Navigator of the Seas Ship...was wondering if was any laundry facility to wash clothes on your own.. and an iron....if was needed to press clothes.
Our room is #8349 inside stateroom...was just wondering where the closest was, so we could go outside that allows smoking.
Thanks...still laughing at " No smoking in laundry room " ...was funny.

You and me both! My only complaint about this is that it will drive more people out to smoke on the balcony - which is very unpleasant to your neighbors if they are downwind. On our last cruise it was so bad (and cigars no less!) that we could never spend time out on the balcony and enjoy fresh air.

You have to go up to deck 11 pool deck to get out side or down to the promenade deck out side the dining room to have a smoke or into the casino or on of a couple other bars. The English pub in the promenade actually allowed smoking.

Even though the new smoking policy did not go into effect on our last cruise (23 Dec 07 - 4 Jan 08), half of the nights the casino was designated as "smoke free".

A reply to both Manual and Phoenix Dream, looking for a smoke free cruise. Well the nearest you can come to that is with Oceania Cruise Lines. No smoking in rooms, balcony, Casino, most of the pool area and open deck. There are two rightfully small areas assigned to smokers both of which can be and were totally avoidable. It was 27 days of pure breathing pleasure

Give it time, once they put the tobacco companies out of business in however many years & cigs become a thing of the past, you'll see no more smoking.

May not happy in my lifetime....but sure seems its heading that way! Started with the airplanes....then offices....then restaurants/bars.....now cruise ships are slowly going in that direction.

All part of cleaning up our planet!

I remember smoking in airplanes and even the grocery store. They have a public beach down here where they say you can't smoke anymore. Come on! I think you should be able to smoke outdoors or out on deck anywhere as long as you don't litter.

Just two years ago a lady in Shreveport made me a deli sandwich with 2 inches of ash hanging from her lips.

When I smoked I went out of my way to not bother non smokers.
As an ex-smoker I can really smell smoke now.
I agree, if you are outside you should ok. I think some people just look to be "bothered".
