Default Check in Luggage or Carry on

We'll be taking a 3 night cruise out of LA to Ensenada. First time cruising. We travel alot and prefer not to check in bags when we fly... we've actually been able to get 5 days of clothes (travel to Hawaii) in a sports duffle bag each instead of checking bags when we fly, so 3 days should be a breeze. Would it benefit us to carry on and not check in any bags? or would it be more of a hassle hauling our carry on's at embarkation/disembarkation? Thanks!!

Welcome to this forum. We usually get on the ship early, the cabins are not usually ready till 1pm so it's better not to be carrying too much stuff. When you board you can go and have lunch and explore the ship. If you board after the cabins are ready then you could just take them to your cabin Either way enjoy you cruise.

I would check the luggage and just carry on what you need right away. Like the previous poster mentioned, you can't always go directly to your cabin to drop things off, explore the ship and have a bite to eat.

I took my carry-on on my last cruise and will be doing so again on this cruise. One of those small rollers. Depending on when you get onto the ship, you might be able to just drop it off at your cabin. If you have to wait a bit, just plop it next to your chair and get a drink and something to eat. Besides... You will have your valuables in it. Just keep your hands on it.

Either eay is fine for embarking; however, I would carry my own luggage off when disembarking. When you have very little luggage, it is just easier that way.

Default Luggage

We always check all luggage except for a carry on for valuables. For disembarkation I like to carry all luggage off the ship as at times it can be a real "easter egg hunt" to find your luggage.

If you can get by without checking bags it's great. However, it's getting tougher. Keep in mind (unless things have chaged since we cruised last August) that they allow no aerosol cans, lotions of any kind etc in the carry ons now. I THINK that includes shampoos & toothpaste too. They are, or at least were, very serious about it too. We ended up having to go back and check in a bag because my wife had some "no no" items like that that I would have never expected to be a problem. Not a real big deal but a bit of a hassle. You said you travel alot so you maybe more up to date on the regs' than I am but I would check. Have a great time.

I echo Donna's advice, check it. lugging lots of carry on is more of a hassle than it's worth, especially since you can't take on any liquids or gels anymore. Check a bag and carry one just a few necessities.

I was talking about flying. I wasn't exactly sure if the original poster was talking about checking bags for the flight or the cruise...It sounded like a little of both. If it was just for the cruise, sorry for providing info' that he wasn't seeking.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was referring to carry on bags vs checking them in for just the cruiseline. To clarify, we will only be on a 3 night cruise 3/14 - 3/17 so I'm sure we can fit our clothing in to a Sports gym bag or back pack each. We've mastered packing light with only the necessities. We'll be driving to San Pedro via San Diego vs flying in - so liquids and gels should not be an issue unless RCI has any restrictions outside their alcohol regulations).
