Default RCI or Carnival

I am new to the cruising world and I have a question to ask. I am thinking about a cruise for August and I have was wondering if RCI or carnival is the better cruise line. I was thinking about the Freedom of the Seas for RCI and for Carnival it was Valor, Liberty, Glory or Triumph. Any help is greatly appreciated.

All I can say, is Freedom of the Seas is awesome. If you want a cruise with lots of activities, etc., then I'd pick Freedom, hands down.

I'm with Donna! But, in all fairness, I have never done Carnival so I cannot compare the two. I have done RCCL's Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas. The ships are just as awesome as the destinations. I would highly recommend them.

We just booked a trans-atlantic on Independence of the Seas for April of 2009, so I'm glad to hear you like Freedom & Liberty of the Seas. It should be a great cruise.

I agree with all above. Freedom is a wonderful ship. ALthough Carnival is ok too. I would stick with the bigger/newer Carnival ships.

Have a great cruise whichever ship you pick!

I love RC... I have taken one cruise on Carnival and would never do it again. I think RC has a better style of cruising for me and my wife.

We recently sailed on Carnival Liberty, it is a beautiful ship but we were not impressed with the the food. We thought that the menu on the dining room was very limited. Our next cruise is on the Liberty of the Seas, and I don't expect to cruise on Carnival again.

Hey LzyBy. Why don't you post this same question over on the Carnival thread, and see what kind of answers you get there?
I've done both lines a lot, and kind of think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Any given ship, on any given week is better. It's a matter of taste, price, and iten in my opinion. I don't think you'll go wrong with either line.

It take a while for the Carnival folks to reply unlike the RCCL folks.

Actually, I have. October of 2004 I sailed the Sensation. Here is my review.

A thousand apologies Dave! My Mistake! (Actually "Sensation" isn't a very good ship to compare to), but once again,,,I'll buy you a cup of coffee when I get over to see you.

Perhaps, but when compared to Sovereign or Enchantment it still didn;t compare. There are 8 identical Fantasy class ships. They look like a milk carton tipped over.

You don't have to convince me. I LOVE the smaller RCI ships,,,I just don't care for the Voyager class, and LARGER RCI ships. On the other hand, I really, really like the Carnival Fantasy class ships as well,,,especially after their latest refit, but I'm not crazy about the larger Carnival ships either. Bottom line Dave, is that I simply prefer the 90,000 and below size ships. I simply don't think you'll go wrong booking either of these great lines, or their smaller ships.
I'll be over to convince you sometime soon.

See you then

I do like the concept for the new Fantasy class pool decks. It is long over due. I will try it again some time.

DTW will be cruising Carnival!
He will not post in the RCCL boards anymore!
And he will take the Speedo thread over to the Carnival boards!

Don't worry CQ. I am not going anywhere! Just have to humor the Carnival fans a little.

I went on Valor last July, it is a great ship. We had a great time. I have not been on RC since 1992. I am going on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the sea this July. There is more to do for kids on Royal Caribbean. That being said you can not beat the price of Carnival. The same week of the year, I am paying double for RC compared to last year on the Valor. Most things I read about food from people that been on both lately say that Carnival food is just as good, if not better. This year I sucked up the price and I am going on RC, mostly for my two 15 year olds.

Your 15 year olds will love the liberty. and yes carnival is alot cheaper (at least for the weeks I price out).

Have fun on the Liberty!

I have always compared similar ships, itineraris and dates and categories of cabins and have not found Carnival to be much cheaper.

Really??? now when I price it out for the weeks I'm interested in RCCL always comes in priced at the top over Carnival, Princess, Hal, celebrity.
Maybe it is just the weeks I'm looking into.

Or maybe RCCL prices out higher because they want to get rid CQ??

No one would want to get rid of the Cruisequeen. The prices are usually dictated by supply and demand.
