Default mariner of the seas

I was curious about Mariner of the seas. My husband and I leave in about a month and my curiosity is getting the best of me. We have sailed carnival before and wonder if anyone could compare the two lines.

Just returned from the Mariner on a 14Day B2B . Going to post a summary as soon as I get home.

If anyone has any specific questions they email me and I'll try to answer their question.

We where in Cabin 6242 Cat E1.

There is no comparison. I am going on Mariner for second time for Spring Break this March. Any specific questions? 8)

I think you'll be pleasantly suprised with Mariner and have a GREAT time.

Have you started packing yet?

We have never been on a Carnival cruise but liked the Mariner well enough to do 2 cruises on it. Happy sailing!

We have started packing. My in-laws are cruising the adventure right now and I absolutely can not wait for the mariner! What is the best place for lunch onboard? Johnny rcokets, windjammer, or cafe promenade? I am watching samantha brown on the Freedom right now and it looks awesome. It's really getting me pumped for the ports. Any suggestions for shore excurisons or must dos in certain ports?

Hi Asmith,
Just go to the windjammer cafe for lunch when you board. I'm not sure if JR's is even open on embarkment day. You'll find plenty to much on for lunch after you board.

A bit off topic, but which ship is going to replace Mariner , when she leaves for her new homeport of LA at the West coast?

Officially, Monarch will replace Sovereign per RCI website, but don't any 7 day options replacing Mariner yet. I have heard Grandeur was coming over but would think a Voyager class like Navigator would make sense with the new Freedom class out of Miami and Genesis from Ft Lauderdale.

Someone asked the captain on Mariner earlier this month when we were on the mariner . His answer was "THAT'S THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION "

I have a question regarding the mariner as well. We will be going on the Mariner leaving March 2nd. Does anyone know who the cruise director is or where I might get a profile on them?

The cruise director when we were on Mariner last spring was Becky (hello, luv) Thomson. Not sure if she's still there or not.

My "sources" tell me that there may not BE a replacement for Mariner until Port Canaveral updates the pier area. I am told that Port Canaveral can't accommodate the Freedom class vessels at this time.

There is NO comparison between Carnival and RCCL. Carnival is loud and cheap. Period. The Glory sails from the same port and is not in the same league with Mariner. We have sailed both. Captain Johnny on the Mariner runs a tight ship. The food is better than the Glory, the service is over the top better and the ship is much cleaner.

I used to cruise with Carnival in the 90's (when I was young and broke). I think I used to go on the older boats (the cheapest cruises) and they were horrible. I didn't know any better at the time. The first time I went on RC, it was like night and day. RC is much much better in my experience. I will never go on a carnival cruise again. The newer boats may be nice on carnival but I don't want to chance it.

F0r DopeyDozer: We are booked in Cabin 6254 (E1) on the Mariner for
next Jan.2009 - Is there any kind of overhang on the balconies obstructing
the horizon - can people on the Deck above (7) see down into your balcony??

Just got back on may 25th on board Mariner-- the cruise director was a guy named Drew (don't know his last name). Mariner was fantastic from time we boarded till time we left!

Thanks... I handed the banana to Drew Devine before my belly flop and he tossed to the girls on the side of the pool.

I just returned from Mariner June 1st. Everyone on this ship says Freedom will replace Mariner. The employees are excited to be going to Los Angeles. Mariner will be missed. Great ship, great staff and great food. I want to go back!. Orlando was a great airport for the first time being there. Easy to find your way to the baggage and bus area for the transfer to Port Canaveral. I can't say enough about this eastern caribbean cruise. LOVED every minute. Will definitely do this again. Have fun everyone booked on Mariner!

WEnt on the Mariner from June 1st-8th. The cruise director was Drew. He was good. EVERYONE on that boat was fantastic. I worked at Disney for ten years and thought their guest service was the best. OH NO! RC beats Disney hands down! You couldn't wipe the smile off my face for the whole week.

Dave:
I seem to remember that you took your kids the last time you went on the Mariner. Did they need photo id's to get back on the ship coming off of the islands? We have 3 kids that are just sailing with their birth certificates. I am concerned about them also needing a photo id to board. They are 10,12,14 years. Thanks for the help. We are going to St. Thomas and St. Martin.

I hear ya! We took Carnival last year and it just sucks compared to RC. I will never go to another cruise line. We also took Norweigian 2 or 3 years ago to the Hawiian Islands. I couldn't wait to get off that cruise ship. Isn't that sad?

Sherry, I was on the Pride of Hawaii last night and the customer service with very bad. Very high turnover of crew and an all American staff with low moral. Bob

There is no comparison between Royal Carribean and Carnival. My husband and I just sailed on the Mariner. We have sailed a lot and our favorite line has always been Holland America, but the Mariner is just as wonderful has Holland America. The food was outstanding, the ship is beautiful, and the service is awesome. We have been on Carnival 3 times and will not go on them again. Don't miss the Ice Show on the Mariner...it is spectacular. And of course the perfect spot for afternoon coffee and a quick sandwich or a dessert is the Cafe Promenade. Enjoy your Cruise!!
