Default Norovirus on the Carnival Valor !!!!

My nephew and his wife just got back from a cruise on the Carnival Valor with some friends. He told me his friend got the Norovirus on the cruise and had to go the the hospital today. At the hospital he found out that another Carnival ship came in with about 150 people with the same virus . I asked him if they used hand sanitizer on the ship and he said no the ship did not have it. I have only been on one other cruise on the Norwegian spirit and they wouldn't let you on board or eat without cleaning your hands with hand sanitizer. I was surprised that carnival doesn't use it. Does anyone know if Royal Caribbeans ships use hand sanitizer or should we bring our own

Explorer of the seas definitely has sanitizer at the dining room entrances. I would still take your own in a small container just in caseyou need a refresher elsewhere.

I think saying "the ship didn't have it" and "I'm surprised carnival doesn't have it" are two different things. Carnival ships do have it. Some may not but some do.

Even the ships of any line that do have are not immune to a virus.

"Ships" don't carry the virus - people do.

All you need is one sick passenger & it spreads like wildfire if your immune system isn't up to par.

That's true people are the carriers but the cruise lines should still take every Precaution to avoid such out breaks. If that means using hand Sanitizer then thats what should be done.

Uh, FYI? Hand Sanitizers don't kill the virus or prevent. They only clean your hands.

Best way is rubbing alcohol to kill germs or wash your hands with soap & water.

I thought the hand sanitizers were 80 o 85 % alcohol in them.

it's 46% effective. So I'll take 46% over nothing any day especially when a lot of people do not wash their hands to begin with. Most hand sanitizers such as Purell are 62% ethyl alcohol.

I got Norovirus on the Valor last year when I was on it. They had no hand sanitizer wipes anywhere on the ship. What a difference when I was on the Freedom of the Sea's two weeks ago. They had staff holding Sanitizers in the entrance of the Dining Room and Buffet. Sanitizer wipes were availble at every other spot food was available. As soon as you boarded the ship from a port stop, sanitzers were available. The crew was constantly wiping down handrails and elevator buttons, something I never saw on the Valor. There were also no self-serve drink fountains in the Buffet area, the F0S had staff who would either have drinks in glasses ready, or would get them for you. Absolutely no comparison between the Freedom of the Seas and the "Squalor" for cleanliness. Needless to say, I did not get sick on the F0S and neither did any other people in our group of 50.
