Default Just returned - Liberty of the Seas -- Great Trip!

Just returned from a 7-Night Eastern Caribbean cruise onboard Liberty of the Seas. We stayed in an Owners Suites (1648) and it was awesome. The ship is basically identical to Freedom with the exception of the Book Nook that was taken out of Liberty and replaced with the Future Cruise Sales Office. The weather was rough the first two days down to Puerto Rico; however, this is totally normal for all Eastern Caribbean Cruises.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer.

Default Eastern Caribbean on Liberty

We're leaving this Saturday, 3/15, on Liberty. We're taking our daughter and her 2 kids. Would love any advice you could give regarding the ship, the ports, etc. How would you rate the shows? Were they appropriate for kids, 8 and 6 years old? Also, did you go to the Schooner Lounge? We loved it on Freedom and are anxious to see who is entertaining there.
Thanks. Mimi642

Good to hear that you had a wonderful time. Sailing on Liberty in a couple of months and can't wait. Also doing Eastern.

Was mostly everyone getting off ship in San Juan being that the ship docks there so late at 3pm?

We plan to stay on the ship but I'm thinking if most cruisers get off the ship to visit San Juan the flowrider line will be very short.

From a San Juan perspective we dock right downtown old san juan so you're basically directly across the street from the Shearton Hotel Old San Juan. I took the Bacardi Rum Tour, which started around 3:30PM and were back at the ship by 6PM. It was dark out by the time we returned, so we just walked around old San Juan and into some shops, but were back onboard by 7PM. Not too many folks stayed out late in Puerto Rico as much of the stores closed by 8PM.

The shows onboard were alright, the ice show was awesome (as usual); however, the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers, we weren't too impressed as we have been on prior cruises. We thought the two stage shows on Freedom were better than Liberty's; however, it's really a personnal choice. Don't get me wrong, music, costumes, lightings were all top notch; just the nature of the show didn't really hold our group's interest.

Spent a good deal of time in Schooner Bar; however, only for Trivia. One thing I didn't like on Liberty was that they moved Trivia time from 8PM to 5:15PM; so we were generally either leaving the pool deck or getting ready when they scheduled it. We def. enjoyed Freedom the year before when they did trivia at 8PM as it was perfect for right before second seating and just in time for first seating to be let out.

If you're sailing on the Eastern cruise, be prepared for HIGH WINDS and rocky waters on Sunday and Monday of the cruise; this is totally normal on every Eastern Caribbean Cruise as the Captain is doing like 23 knots to make Puerto Rico. The first two days the relative winds were like 43 miles per hour on the pool deck. The H20 Zone had much of the fountains shut off for the first two days as the water was spraying everywhere.

Onboard "Celebrity" entertainers were the "Ossmond Brothers"; and no- Donny and Marie were not with them.

Oh - Flow Rider line was short all week, they split it in half so it creates two lines. Also learned that you can "rent-it-out" for a private party if you're seriously into it. I'm not sure how much it costs, but it may be worth considering.

The formal nights are Sunday and Wednesday night on the Eastern Caribbean Cruise. As for the cruise director, it's the Austrilian bald guy; he was our CD on Freedom last year. I think his name is James something? It def. wasn't Ken Rush, who I haven't had as a cruise director in years; however, he's awesome!

Oh ok thanks Diamond! I had Ken Rush on Freedom two years ago I was not crazy about him. Last year had Richard Spacey and He had me laughing all week.

But James the Austrilian bald guy might be fun!

That is good to hear! Then if James is on Liberty I'm in for some laughs! Not that the CD would make or break a cruise but for me a funny CD is a plus!

Hey, I went on Liberty of the Seas Feb. 16-23, 2008 and the cruise director was James Andrews! He is a GREAT GUY and VERY FUNNY! He always knows what to say to keep you entertained!

The flowrider is great, you absolutely have to try it out if you are on a freedom class ship!

Could not find any videos on James but found this one on Rich Spacey thought I'd share it with the group. Funny Stuff!!

A CD that can dance gets an A+ in my book!

Anyone sail with Spacey remember this dance routine???
