Default Guaranteed vs. not

Can anyone tell me about their experiences booking a non guaranteed room? I have heard that if you do not book a guaranteed room, you may possibly get a free upgrade to a better room. Has anyone tried this? We usually book inside state rooms as we cannot afford anything more. Are we going to get stuck with a bad room if we choose to not guarantee?

I've never heard of someone getting an upgrade when you select and pay for a particular cabin. You will be staying in the cabin you paid for.

Well, thats exactly it. My understanding is that you dont select one certain room....you dont know which room you are going to be in until you check in. I was hoping someone would have done this and had an experience to share.

guaranteed is the way to go.. but just realize that you might end up in the same inside cabin but on a different level. Every once is a while the upgrade fairy gets happy and give you an ocean view but don't count on it.

You may have guaranteed confused, thats when you do not pick a cabin. You allow RCL to pick the cabin for you, so if they run out or have a lot of some other cabins, they may upgrade you. Hence booking a guaranteed cabin where you dont get a choice is cheaper and you have a better chance of being upgraded.
