I have just booked a cruise on Freedom of the Sea for our family. Six adults (ages 30 to 60) and 3 kids (ages 3,8, and 15). This is our first cruise and we are very excited. Will there be plenty of activities to keep the kids busy? And the adults? Our rooms are 8260, 8261, 8262 and 8263 are these good cabins? Should we know anything about making reservations for shore excursions, dinner, activities before we cruise? Is that even possible? Other then formal nights does the ship have "theme nights" that we should pack for? I hope we picked the right ship. We are not sailing until 1/11/2009 so I still have time to make changes. Thanks for any information you send my way.
Hold on .... you will get so many responses. You have picked the best ship. We just returned from Freedom. Busy oh yes you will all be so busy. Just take a colored marker and highlight all the activities you might be interested each day when you read your compass. So many that a high lighter really helps keep you on schedule. The kids will love it. Just sign them up for the Adventure Ocean the first night and they will get their own activities schedule each day. I always say if you don't have fun on the ship it's our own fault. Now your fun begins enjoy planning.
As for shore excursions, yes, you can prebook them online when you are ready. I highly recommend doing that for the ones you really want and at certain times. You can still however, book them once you are onboard, either calling or using the TV in your cabin. Very easy.

Your kids will love the Freedom. There will be plenty for them to do and you will not see them much! Get ready for some "me time"!
Although the 3 kids will be placed in different groups because of their ages they will make friends onboard.
For a first cruise you chose a great ship!
Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you Jiffymom, Cruisequeen and Donna. I'm new to all of this but this web site is so helpful. Can any of you tell me if the cabins we picked are ok? They are numbered 8260,61,62,and 63. Also I read about sneaking alcohol on board versus the bar set up. My husband and I are beer drinkers (so it will be tough to sneak that on!). Does anyone know if they give you a bar set up for beer? Cost? Where would I find this out? Is it worth it to buy the soda passes for the grandkids?
I'm real happy for the positive feedback about the Freedom of the Sea. We were going back and forth between this ship and the Disney cruise. Our TA told us we would get more for our money with RCCL - hope he's right!

You'll like the four rooms you have chosen all together on deck 8....cabin only decks above and below you means no noise from clubs, dining facilities, etc. And, handy to be close to the elevator too.
Yes, the soda passes are worth it, and I highly recommend it.
Alcohol is not allowed to be brought on board as per the following directly from RCI.
Depending on your stateroom/suite category, you're accommodations many include amenities such as bathrobes, mini bars and more. Check with your travel agent or RCI Customer Service 1-866-562-7625 to find out what specific amenities are included in your stateroom/suite.

Hey Dannys Dad good hearing from you. I will definetly check out the meet and mingle for our cruise w/ the url you provided. I can't wait to sail. And, as you can see we finally booked the Disney wonder for 2009. Our grown college age sons are sooo psyched for that one.
See you in 29 Fridays Dannysdad.....and rest assured I'll bring some A&W root beer for your son
