the port in miami...can we take a bus to the beach?
We are booked on the transatlantic leaving Galveston on the 27th of this month and the ship will be docking in Miami for 2 days before heading off to Spain. We have never been to Miami and are wondering if we could take a local bus from the port to one of the beaches in Miami. I would rather do this then book a over-priced excursion. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Here is the link to the local bus schedule from the Port.
You can transfer to the C or S bus which runs to Miami beach every 10 minutes at Biscayne Blvd. Get off at Lincoln Road (it is a pedenstrian street closed off to traffic) and walk one block to the beach and art deco district. The cost is $1.50 and takes about 20-40 minutes. On the way back, be sure to ask your bus driver to announce the stop to get off at. There is a lot of re-routing around contruction on the way back and if you miss the stop you will get a tour of the more "interesting" areas of downtown Miami (although the bus does eventually loop back around to Biscayne BLVD)
You could also consider taking a taxi to south beach. It should be a 15 minute or so drive, and the cost should be $20-$25 dollars.
Going to s.beach, you will also pass by star island....with those wonderful celebrity homes!!!
