Default Tipping

Does anyone know how you go about tipping on Royal Caribbean do they bill your account automatically or do you have to find the different crew members and give it to them We sailed NCL and it was done automatically.Just want to know so I can bring enough cash if need be.

They still do it the old fashioned way with cash and the envelopes. If you want to have it put on your credit card, you'd have to arrange that when you board or sometime during the cruise.

The way we did it on Voyager JOECAT was by using the envelopes provided on the penultimate day of the cruise. There are envelopes for your Head Waiter, Wine/Second Waiter, Maitre De and your stateroom steward/stewardess.

I've posted on these forums previously and got a bit of a telling off from some posters, re tipping.
Tipping (as the norm) is not something we do in the UK. However, we did 'tip' the suggested amounts to the people above. Also, and some may find this strange (Even I do!)! I tipped the barman (Marcelo) - on top of the 15% that is compulsory - as he made us very welcome and was a big part of our holiday.

This time we have "Free Gratuities" in with the price, and I'm not sure how this works to be honest. Some have told me that I won't get the same service? I hope not!

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Mark

You have the option of putting the tips on your bill, prepaying your tips or putting cash in the envelopes provided on the last night of your cruise.

Some options must be done by three days before the end of the cruise

A couple of bucks depending on how much you order.

I had better get a whole bunch of ones and twos (can I get money changed into smaller bills on the ship) When we buy U.S. money up here in the northern hemisphere lol we only get twenties and up - banks don't handle small U.S. currency.

Having a good supply of dollar bills is always a good idea. Seems like all I ever have is 20s, too. ATMs are funny that way! Once when we were in Cabo, the hotel wouldn't cash a $100 bill for me--said they didn't have enough small ones, but I'd just seen the cashier put a whole tray of money into the till! (They're afraid of bogus bills.) So I went into the gift shop right next to the cashier and bought a 99-cent magnet and the clerk gave me back change for my $100! Where there's a will, there's a way! Take lots of ones!

Deb,
Just use the chart above and have all the tips together before you leave home, then you don't have to worry about it. Figure $10.00 per day, per person.

As for room service, you tip as you use the service, a few dollars each time, depending on how much you have ordered. Its usually a different person each time.
