Default GENESIS Press Conference 4/15

Tuesday is the big day when a Press Conference will be held in regards to Genesis of the Seas!

I'm hoping to hear some details on the ship amenities.

I have heard rumors of.....
A lazy river
Central Park
Bowling alley
Boardwalk
Outdoor promenade
Even a roller coaster

With Genesis due 2009 and Genesis 2 due 2010 and a fourth Freedom class ship for 2011 that is alot of happy cruising people.

Anyone have any thoughts on Genesis!

Genesis is a must cruise for me!

Default I thought....

...that RCL was holding a contest to name these boats? Now it appears that it will be named Genesis? Perhaps it is the other ships that require names... ?

I think an indoor park or conservatory would be great! Some other ideas would be:
- a zoo with animals!
- a submarine that comes out of the bottom of the ship!
- a pool that has sand all around it and on the bottom!
- a roller skating rink...to heck with ice!
- a racquet ball court...or three!
- a permanent Food Network kitchen studio that has cooking classes and shows!
- a 2nd and 3rd Excursions desk for the mass of people that will be served!
- SHOWERS that are normal human size!!
- Express elevators!!
- A staff of deck police to kick off chair savers hogging them all day!!
- Cages for chickens, pigs and other "fresh" livestock!!

I could go on...but I suppose I should get some work done instead....

I also heard a mini zoo and tennis courts.

We will see what they have to say on Tuesday.

I think it should be called Sovereign of the Seas since they are retiring the original.

Roller coaster is dumb idea.

Central park and inward facing balconies over this park will be aft.

Promenade will be wider and include some glass and views to the sea.

Lazy river a good idea.

Flowrider again.

larger ice rink.

Perhaps a second basketball court that as already double as tennis and volleyball and dodgeball.

Expanded H2O zone.

Promenade cabins with real balconies.

Formal portrait of Dave the Wave and The Cruise Queen adorns the entrance to the dining room.

A pool at the stern! 8)

and a few other things that I have been sworn to secrecy about.

The Genesis class is a class of Royal Caribbean cruise ships, the first of which was ordered in February 2006. The first ship is scheduled to be delivered in Fall of 2009 and has not yet been named. The naming of the two ships ordered so far is to take place in May 2008 but neither is to be named "Genesis of the Seas"[1][2].

The Genesis class will surpass the earlier Freedom Class as the world's largest passenger ships. They will be 23 meters (69 feet) longer, 8.5 meters (29 feet) wider, have a slightly deeper draft than the Freedom Class ships, and a gross tonnage that is expected to be 43% greater. The ship is projected to have new features, but no details have been provided and all parties involved with the construction have signed non disclosure agreements.[1]

Like the Freedom class, the Genesis class ships will be built by Aker Finnyards in Turku, Finland. They will be 1,180 feet (360 meters) long, with a gross tonnage of 220,000, and will be able to carry 5,400 passengers. The first of the Genesis class, priced at US$1.2 billion (€ 900 million) reportedly will be the most expensive commercial ship ever built. It will be 118.1 feet (36 m) longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower and weighing 12 times more than the tower.[3] It will also be 48 feet longer than the present longest ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2.

The option for a second ship of the class was exercised by Royal Caribbean on April 2, 2007. The second ship is to be delivered by Aker Yards, Turku in August 2010.[4]

On December 11, 2007, the keel of the first vessel of the class was laid down in Turku. In early 2008, Royal Caribbean ended months of speculation by announcing that their two Genesis class ships would be based year-round at Port Everglades.

I spoke to RCCL the other day and I asked the rep when is Genesis sailing and he told me January 2010! I told him I thought it was Fall of 09 he said no first sailing will be in Jan. 2010! I think he has the wrong info even though he works for RCCL.

Ok pictures look great! Wow I can't wait for that one!

Quote:
including what's billed as the first moving bar at sea. Called Rising Tide, it will slowly glide up-and-down three decks, from the base level of the Central Park downward into lower areas of the ship (see illustration below; click on the image to make it bigger). A range of stores are planned, too.
Ok a moving bar!

Quote:
Royal Caribbean says the Central Park area is one of seven "neighborhoods" that the line plans for the ships, part of a new strategy to divide up passengers based on their personal tastes and interests. The line will unveil other neighborhoods over the next year.
Hmm...different neighborhoods kinda reminds me of Epcot.

No mention yet of my Lazy River!

I have to admit, that is going to be a very impressive ship. Never thought I'd see a cruise ship where they had to mow the grass onboard lol.
