St. Thomas - Coki beach or Sapphire Beach for snorkelling?

Going on Freedom of the Seas May 4th and wondered whats the better beach of the 2 for snorkelling? Also anyone know if its close enough to walk to Sapphire Beach from Coki or do we need a taxi?

Coki is nice, but be aware of the the Bob Marley look alikes smoking pot towards the end of the beach. Harmless, but just a heads up.

thanks for the tip. Are you familiar with Sapphire Beach by chance and is that walkable from Coki beach?

My opinion is that the snorkelling is much better at Coki Beach. However, yes, there are pot smoking Bob Marley types there. Coki Beach was very secluded compared to Sapphire. Sapphire had iguanas (large ones! arou d the beach area, Coki had a few chickens! Oh and renting items (chairs, floats, etc) is cheaper on Coki but the items are nicer, better maintain on Sapphire. I would bring your own snorkeling gear for sure!
Have a wonderful trip!

We just returned and tried something new since there were so many ships in port while we were there. We took the ferry from Red Hook, There's one that leaves from Charlotte Amalie as well and went to St. John to Trunk Bay. It was beautiful and unspoiled, great for snorkelling. Nice showers, and very clean. It is actually a U.S. National Park. We will definitely do this again. We like Coki, but since we had been to St. Thomas many times, we wanted to try something different.

No, you can not walk from Sapphire to Coki. You would need a taxi. Sapphire is ok. My 10 yr old ejoyed the snorkeling becuse it was so close to shore. The beach is "dirty" by St Thomas standards - i.e. rocks, twigs, some light garbage. Coki has very good snorkeling, but also more natives.

There is a new beach called Lindqvist or Smith Bay. It is beautiful! Very large, clean, nice snorkeling. You could take a taxi there. They are just starting to get services in there. It was taken over by the group that runs Maegans Bay a few months back. There is a $2/person fee to get in. They have lifeguards and VERY clean porto potties. Just another option.

I LOVED COKI BEACH, NOT CROWDED AND QUIET. ALSO IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE IN THE FUTURE YOU HAVE TO GO TO TRUNK BAY OVER IN ST. JOHNS. ONE OF THE NICEST SPOTS IN THE WHOLE CARIBBEAN. THERE IS A SHORE EXCURSION TO GET YOU THERE. ENJOY.

Coki beach has good snorkeling but is 'rustic'. If you haven't taken the ferry over to St John's it is well worth the 3 or 4 dollars!

Does anyone know how often the ferry runs from St. Thomas to St. John? Thank you!
