Default Dinner Mystery Theatre on Freedom

I just heard about this, but I guess I missed the details when it was announced. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Q: What is Mystery Dinner Theater?

A: Join our cast of characters for a night of mystery, intrigue and lots of laughs. Our professional cast will host an evening of theater where you are the detectives. Solve the crime in Portofino, our gourmet Italian specialty restaurant, over an exquisite four-course dinner paired with fine wine and fun for all.

Q: What ships offer Mystery Dinner Theater?

A: Ships with Portofino Restaurant with an itinerary of 7 days or more.

In other words, the mystery isn't "what's in the soup?" - but it is acted out on the floor of the restaurant and you have to figure out if Professor Hatchet did it with a meat cleaver in the library?

What's the prize if you win?

I heard it was $49. per person and held once a week.

Sounds like fun.

Would like to hear from a cruisemate that has actually done it.

We did this on the Radiance back in 2005. The $49 included wine and the meal was wonderful. It was a play and started off on the Colony Club where the dancers were the actors. After the murder, we all went to Portifinos and between courses different characters would give you their version of the murder and their alibi. I don't remember if there was a prize for the table who won but I know we had a good time and the food, especially the dessert was exceptional. We would do it again.

I have done three of them including one on the Freedom. They are just as CA Cruiser discribed. However, They are hard to find anymore. The last three cruises I asked and was told they don't do them anymore.

Yello - When were you on the Freedom??? I was on the Freedom twice but I never did hear of a Mystery dinner show or see it on the compass.

Maybe they don't have it on every sailing.

It is never in the compass. You must go to Portofino's and ask if they are having a mystery dinner. It is organized by the staff and is hit and miss.

Thanks Yello! I was on Freedom 6/06 and 4/07 but the show could have been on those sailing but if it was not on the compass and I did not go to Portofino then I would not know about it I guess.

CRUISEQUEEN......... I am sorry, but I was in error. The last Mystery Dinner I did was on the Serenade not the Freedom. I mixed up the two because the guy that ran Portofinos, Alan, also ran Portofinos on the Freedom about six months later. He always did a fun Dinner. Now that I think about it, all the ones I have done have been on Radiance class ships. Maybe that has something to do with it ?

Oh ok Yello! The murder mystery shows are very popular around my area so I can always catch one back home if the ship does not have one.

My wife and I were on Radiance last Sept. in Alaska and they did have a Murder Mystery Dinner. It was a riot. Try to get a table with friends you have made. The play is very interactive and you will have a really great time with a good group. I will be going on Freedom this Fall and certainly hope that they do have a MMD... We would do it again in a second.

I'm doing a Western Med cruise on the Brilliance on Nov 13, 08. I only recently found out about the Mystery Dinner Theatre on the "My Cruises" section of RCCL's website. They list it along with shore excursions. Only problem is, when I tried to book it I couldn't. It seems the biggest "mystery" was to RCCL's cruise planners - i got varying answers. The last one told me its "blacked out" until Feb '09. I'm going to keep checking though, because she didnt seem real certain about it.
