Default Laundry Question

What is the "nominal" fee for laundry? Also is this a "perk" if you have booked suites?

Just wondering, we've never cruised with RC before......

Yes, I would like to know as well - we are doing 30 days around the Cape Horn/South America and there are no self-serve laudermats on board.

The prices ae actually less then we pay here at home. They have laundry and drycleanning. They also have just presing for half price.
They've also started a "bag of laundry" for (I forget the amount) near the end of the cruise. Just laundry, no folding or hangers, for all you can stuff in a bag. Good for underwear, t-shirts, etc.

They've also started something new on RCCL where it's one price for everything you can stuff into one of their laundry bags. I want to say it's $20. Things like underware, socks, t-shirts, essentially things that do not have to be ironed.

Thanks you guys for your input!

Anyone else?

How fast do they turn around ironing since there isn't an iron to be found (liking Carnival more and more simply for these options!). Do you have to send ironing down the day before????

Anyone????

I've been on RC, Carnival, and Princess ships. I much prefer Carnival and Princess because of the self-serve laundry. I don't dry many of my blouses. I let them air dry, for various reasons. There are many great things about RC ships, but they are lacking in that department, especially if you are taking a long cruise with them.

For prices ... http://www.royalcaribbean.com/custom...as&faqType=faq

Next day service.

We stayed in a suite and we did not get free laundry.

The only line I know of that gives you free laundry is Princess but you have to be the top tier Elite member to get it.

If you are booked in a Suite on Princess you also get free laundry. We booked a mini-suite, got upgraded and used this service twice.

So many different answers!

Guess we'll play it by ear and next time take Carnival!

Thanks all

Dh called RC last night to get an answer on this question.

They told him the laundry is indeed priced PER ITEM and there is no "bag at the end of the cruise special". Also prices are not waived for suite booked passengers.

Talk about making money off of your passengers! I think RC would be wise to put in self laundry service on longer cruises.

Our cruise is 9 days and we'll have to have laundry done at least once! GRrrrrrrrr......we'll be gone a total of 12 days round trip.

Oh well, live and learn and we are learning that RC is not the line for us

I don't know if those answering the phone at RC know everything that happens on the ship. They know what it states on the RC website because on the Radiance and the Mariner, we were offered "a bag of laundry" for $15/$20. It was a small bag. I read on here (CM) that if you are Platinum, you get $5 off!! We, too, are getting ready for a 12 day cruise with 3 pre-cruise days and 1 post-cruise and have planned to use the laundry services. My girlfriend just returned from a riverboat cruise and did some laundry in the bathroom sink, hanging things to dry on the clothes line in the shower. She said it worked just fine, just bring some laundry detergent. We always bring a few clothes pins to hang our swim suits so we will be prepared.

We are Platinum on Carnival. We get our clothes washed for free as one of our perks for being Platinum. We love it.

Our last cruise was a RC back to back Transatlantic and Mediterranean that lasted 20 days. We were given the option of paying $20 to wash a very small bag of clothes. I took liquid laundry detergent and washed a few things out by hand, when needed. It worked fine for us.

Don't expect the person that you called to know exactly what goes on on the ship. I do know for a fact that they are offering the "bag special" of laundry. You'll get more accurate information here on the boards than by calling RCCL, trust me.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the advice!

We plan on buying some detergent/stain remover once we arrive in NJ. We have a couple of days before we board so we'll have time. We'll also board with clean clothing since we'll wash items at the hotel before leaving.

Our "private laundry" as Dd calls them will be washed out in the sink with our own detergent and hung to dry. Attractive I know but who the heck will see them???

We will have to have some laundry washed while on board due to the fact we have 2 kids, ages 9 and 6. I have a habit of letting my chest take a test bite of whatever I'm eating so I'm sure some of my shirts will also have to be laundered. Oh well, such is life We'll survive.

Again, thank you for the advice!!!!

I do remember that bag of laundry special on RCCL taking place about 2 or 3 days prior to the end of the cruise. I am usually pretty good at figuring out exactly how much to bring without having to do laundry or having it sent out. Bob

Well, sailing for 30 days - better be a pretty big "bag" - think we will do
the "toss the old stuff overboard !! (just kidding) - you would think for the
size of the ship and the amount of passengers she carries - self-serve
laudermats would be available. Costa has them and they were free - just
had to bring detergent along.

Wow, that's great. You have to pay to use the washer and dryer on Carnival and Princess. It's still much better than not having them at all.

This is not on every cruise, some do it and some don't. I have heard of some of the ships starting this, but it is definitely not fleet wide, and not something they are publicizing.
