Default Advice re: Royal Carribean excursions in Medditeranean

Going to Mediterranean for first time this August on Voyager of Seas. I want to take excursions through the cruise ship but it is very confusing. Any advice as to the best or worst excursions in Nice, Livorno (Florence), Rome (Civitavecchia), Naples, Palermo. I've never been to Europe before and want to see alot but don't want to tour on a bus every day all day.

Nice? I don't know. You could take the train to monte Carlo and see the royal palace and where Grace Kelly was married and buried.

Rome: take a city tour.

Naples: go to Pompeii

Palermo: not sure

Livorno (Florence) - Lucca

http://www.lucca.info/

Stay away from Pisa; it is a waste of time. If there is a Florence only tour, that would be OK.

Thanks for the tips...I was interested to going to Cannes in France, is it easy to get there on your own from the port in Villefranche?

On the contrary, I found Pisa to be amusing for about a 1/2 hour, just to see the leaning tower. It is a whistle stop betwen the port and Florence.

Nice is nice, but don't bother with St Tropez or Marseille. the first is overpriced and the latter is dirty and too busy.

You can take the train from Villefranche-sur-mer. Easy trip

Half an hour to walk there from the bus. Half hour jostling for a position to take a picture. 1 minute for a picture. And a half hour walk back to the bus.

Yea, great place to visit.

Nice is much better than Cannes. When the Cannes film festival ends in May there is nothing there. Nice has wonderful resturaunts and shops right along the water.

we did a lot of excursions through the ship.

if you can find one in Rome through the internet, book it. we missed out on the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps.

Villefranche is easy to navigate from by bus, taxi, or train. they have maps at the dock. the trains were on strike when we were there at the beginning of June though....

i loved Florence and Pisa. we did it through the ship and thought both were incredible. why go all the way there and not see the Leaning Tower???

in Naples we booked a Capri, Sorrento, and Pompeii tour. do NOT miss out on Pompeii, it's pretty much amazing!

where else are you going?

Hi there, I've heard of a tour company called Romeinlimo.com who do an all day tour of most of the Italian stops on the voyage.

I'm going on the voyager of the seas on 23rd August, 2008 with my sister and we're looking for others to do the Rome tour with Romeinlimo. By all accounts its absolutely the best way to see Rome. It really needs 6 or 8 people for it though as its too expensive for a couple. Their air conditioned mini-van which holds up to 6 people is 500 euros for the day and the mini-bus for 8 people is 600 euros.
Have a look at their website. I've read nothing but fantastic reports about them.

I'm desperately trying to find another 4 or 6 people who would be willing to go on it. So if anyone reading this is interested, please please please give me a shout.

Happy cruising!

Livorno we took a pisa tour, we couldn't hear the guide and pisa is just a big old leaning tower. I think they have a Florence/Pisa tour you are better off with this. In Cicitavecchia (Rome) we did a Vatican tour and it was amazing I could spend hours there. I mailed myself a postcard and it was fun getting the postcard when I go home.

I wish I would have booked this tour I hear Florence is wonderful. But, hey I got back early and went shoe shopping in Livorno and I love my italian shoes.

in Naples we booked a Capri, Sorrento, and Pompeii tour. do NOT miss out on Pompeii, it's pretty much amazing!

Yes but if I didn't go to Pisa I wouldn't have this picture. It is funny watching about a 100 tourists doing this at the same time.

1/2 hour for a slow walker and 15 - 20 minutes for the average walker from the bus to the "Field of Miracles".
