Will the purser's desk cash Traveler's checks for you?? Are there ATM machines on the Mariner of the Seas?? I can't use plastic for EVERYTHING on shore and don't want to be carrying a lot of cash either.
Thank you.
Yes you can cash travellers cheques onboard and they do currency exchange. All the cruise ships I've been on have had an ATM but I think they charge a hefty fee (maybe someone else can give the exact charge?)
Depending on where you're going $ may be accepted in your ports of call.

The ATMs onboard RCi charges about $5 a transaction. Also, since they are satellite linked, they tend to go very slow and sometimes don't complete the transaction. To make sure, only use the onboard ATM while in a port.

One trick that I was told about my last cruise to bypass the fees from the onboard ATMs....
...go to the casino and withdraw $ from the cashier and charge it to your SeaPass account. You won't get charged the service charge and it'll just be added to your bill at the end of the cruise.
It helps if you end up going through more $ than you thought and allows you to have cash on hand without spending the $6 service charge from the ATM.
Word of caution...don't spend it all in the casino on your way out!

And this is exactly why RCI is now charging 3% on some ships.

And information like that is exactly what these forums is all about. Having the knowledge and passing it on!
