Default San Juan question

Since Liberty gets into San Juan at 3PM and leaves at 10PM can anyone tell me what you can do during this time? If you have early seating it really creates a problem doing ANYTHING, guess we could miss eating in the dining room and just eat at Windjammer that night. Any advice?

I don't know why RCI does this. Most of the shops close about 1600 and I think the fort (El Morro) closes at 1700. Te Bacardi rum factory is closed.

The bars are open and so are the restaurants. You could just take a strole and eat in one of thee local places (not the tourist traps).

Yes, you can go to the Winjammer and eat in your casual attire, order room service , make a late reservation at one of the specialty restaurants or go to the Royal Promenade and grab a sandwich or some pizza. Lots of choices. I would not rush back just to eat, you have many options for food on this cruise. Bob

I stayed on the ship last week while cruising on Liberty.

Been to San Juan before so there was nothing there that I want to see and enjoyed having the ship to myself when 3pm rolled around.

Like Bob said you can always check out San Juan and skip early dinner and eat at Windjammer that nite.

Try the house special at the "Parrott Club' walking distance from ship. The drink is a passion fruit/bacardi limon base and served frozen.

Certainly not walk aound Old San Juan after dark, that's for sure!. But beforehand is safe enought in the main shopping streets. El Moro fort us not to be missed. Check ahead and see when the last English tour is given and take a taxi to there. Walk back and shop and browse.

The fort closes at 1700. The last tour is at 1500. They won't make it.

i was afraid at that. Never did figure why so many cruise ships dock in San Juan late i the afternoon and leave at night... doesn't give anyone time to do much of anything except? They have been doing that for years.

Anyboy know why?

No idea why they pull in so late. We have done San Juan a few times before. On our last cruise on RCI, we just stayed on the ship.

I was there in Feb. on Costa. Since we had been there before several times we just walked around until it started getting dark then spent time at the casino right near the pier. There were 2 couples so we felt safe doing this. I won about $15.00 in the casino so it was a good plan.

we were on Freedom in December - docked in San Juan at 3pm.

We booked an excursion on board which included a trip to the fort and visit to the Bacardi distillery - it departed at 3:15 and lasted 3 and a half hours. Cost $35 each

Where is the Casino at, is it near where the ships dock and walking distance....and what is the name of the Casino or is there more then 1 to choose from. Is San Juan not a safe place to be?

Royal, there is a casino right across the street from Senor Frogs but can't remember the name of it. There is also one at the Sheraton which is near the cruise ship terminal. Most of the hotels in San Juan have their own casinos so finding one should not be hard. Bob

They must have put together a special for the ship as those places close early.

We were on The Explorer OTS for a Xmas/NY cruise and they did not offer any tours in San Juan. Otherwise, I would have signed up for that.
