OK... Suz is looking at me like I'm from another planet.
So I put my brain into turbo mode and have concluded that:
Royal Caribbean specs are vague and really pertain to 4 BANKS of elevators
possibly with 3-4 elevators per bank for a total of 12-16 elevators.
This has to be what they mean.... surely they can't expect 4000 passengers
to get where they are going on 4 elevators.
Ok... I'm rambling... this is what happens when retirement takes hold of your brain.
(Is my theory correct?)
(The theory about the elevators... not my brain)

I think "Mariner" must have only had about 3 or 4 elevators. The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I were on a "mid" deck, and the elevator was ALWAYS full when the doors opened on our deck. As a result we wound up walking up and down most of the time. I think with that many passengers aboard, they could use a few more elevators. Just my opinion.....
