Default Are you A Planner?

When you cruise, do you find yourself trying to plan every minute of the day, or does your mind turn to mush, and you say the heck with it, I am NOT moving from the pool:):)

Does having a game plan make you feel more comfortable or is it Que sera, sera?

Do you like to be spontaneous, or feel the need to follow a plan?

No real planning whatsoever. We used to book through the ship but now we mostly do our own thing. It's fun, however, to book a catamaran or snorkle adventure sometimes but we wait till we are on the ship. Life is so full of day to day planning so when we are on vacation, we like to chill.

Plan only if there is something we really want to see or do.
Usually just sit on board and relax and enjoy the quiet of the ship with most people gone ashore

I research everything hotels, ports, tour companies, train schedules, airline history etc. Everything, then I pick and chose the raw data I want my hubby to have and he creates the excel spreadsheet of major events.
Then he sorts that into a zip up folder with all the confirmation and print outs.

However, I never book every mintue of the cruise. If it's a good beach port I just research every beach in the area pick my favorite. Print out the map and we go there. Why so much research you might ask, it's fun for me, it saves me money, and it finds me the best accommendations.

Other people check Tripadvisor for hotel review I cross check the reviews with virtual tourist and other websites. I like roll call forums I chat with others on the cruise and share information. Everyone doesn't do this? My last cruise was Italy and I'm a fullsize gal so I researched clothing stores in Rome the have full size fashion. I love the skirt I bought in Rome. Looking at Italian websites also helps in learning the lauguage. What to much?

I like to do some research so I know there is something fun to do off of the boat. We booked 2 excursions through the boat on our 4 day cruise which worked out good and the rest I researched on my own. The next cruise I go on needs to have some at sea days though, when we got back I was really tired.

Port days are planned around excursions and or shopping. Sea days are do as you want, when you want and geared around eating and sunning :-)

I'm with katlady~~~I plan, and then plan again.

We book shore excursions ahead of time. One cruise we waited until onboard, and what we wanted was closed.

I read and reread all the info on the boards. We book the cruise a year ahead so we get the cabin we want.
The 2009 cruises were booked in 2007.

I know, I know. I'm pathetic.

Planning helps me keep my sanity until the big day arrives.
It's not easy living between the space that occurs when you
BOOK the cruise and finally GO on the cruise.

Very little planning. It becomes somewhat routine. I usually scan ports of call, briefly look what's available, decide if I stay onboard or go onshore. If I go onshore I usually do private excursions. I cruise in about 1 1/2 month and haven't decided yet what to do.

On the ship there is no rush, no planning. I don't use highliters to highlite certain things in the Compass. We carry it in the back pocket and when we have time we look what is available otherwise it is 'relaxation with a drink in your hand'.

The only thing I am particular about is roll call meetings and meet and mingles.

Too much planning increases the odds in favor of error and the inability to adjust. Most people I met who had problems enjoying their cruise are those who planned every minute of the cruise and when something went wrong they couldn't adjust, tempers flared, moods swang.

Naaaa, not for me.

I am a planner. I have an idea of what to do in each port. I always have a plan. Sometimes I even have a plan and a back up plan. I have never regretted doing my homework on the ports we visit.

On sea days though, I am not much of a planner at all. I tend to look at the order of events and then forget all of the things I intended to do. D/H is good at keeping me on track on sea days (he has a much better short term memory).

I found I generally save money and time planning our excursions in advance

I meticulously plan several options for each day and, except for booked excursions selected and paid in advance, go with what looks best when the moment comes up.

I love to research all the ports that we will visit. I look at what's available to do in these ports then pick and choose the right excursion. On sea days I don't do anything. I don't sit in the sun due to cancer; so I walk around the ship all day and meet people. Last year on my Med cruise I met a lot of interesting people from both the United States and Europe. I am going back to Europe next May with a group from our church. Right now we have 12 people, and that number is growing. So I have already started planning ahead for next years cruise. It makes my life feel like I'm helping someone out when I can plan a wonderful trip and vacation.

Cheers

I do plan as far as ports go. I research ports, look for other options online, or just wander out and see what is available. I have just recently gotten brave enough to go out on my own in the Caribbean, and I will do that somewhat the next time I go to Europe.

As far as the ship goes, I usually plan to do the parties and shows. And nights after those things are over are spent in the disco/karaoke lounge/piano bar, or wandering around by myself.

Sea days it's just whatever. I like to do as much as I can, I have this mentality of "I might miss something!" . Most of the time though I end up sleeping outside on deck or playing in the pool.

My only plan is to be the first one at the pool bar. 8)

Other than that, I like to plan at least sail or snorkel party trip. I am not a shopper. Would rather hang out in local bar and relax.

On the ship is is pool all day, get ready for dinner then enjoy show or hang in the piano bar. The disco is too loud for me...

Dave, that is my game plan also. Not that big into shopping except if I see a couple of really cool t-shirts from a local bar that my friends might like. Bob
