Ditto CACruiser-I too bought a cheapie waterproof camera and it worked just fine while snorkeling.

I have a suggestion to make your life easier--Olympus Stylus 850SW (8MP) or 1030SW (10MP)
Shock proof to 5 feet (6 feet for 1030)
Crush proof to 200 lbs (yup, step on it and it still will work)
Freeze proof to -10C/-14F (take it skiiing!)
WATERPROOF TO 10 feet (850) or 33 feet (1030)
I have the 770SW (7MP) and you can snap pics and view them right away! One downside is it is rated for one hour underwater only, but a quick drying off and checking of the contact points I don't see why it can't go for longer...I am going to try...

Will a Walgreens waterproof camera work OK for snorkling?
Yes and no. Will it work? Yes. Will it work OK? IMO no. I agree with misguided angel that a digital will produce way better pictures. But the cost difference may be too much for you to swallow. The Stylus 850 SW is going for $259 on circuitcity.com. However with the diposable there's the added cost of development and buying a new camera every time you Snorkel. There are other options such as waterproof cases for your non-water camera, but if it leaks your out the money. I prefer to use underwater disposables with built in flash. This improves picture quailty. However I am considering going digital if my girlfriend doesn't stop booking us on these wonderful cruises. Worth a look.
P.S. There is another post on this subject. Try copying and pasteing this in your web browser. Sorry I can't make it a link as I am on a PDA right now.
Kodak makes a decent underwater camera which can be bought at CVS, most chain food outlets, Target etc. I need to invest in a good underwater camera since I really do a lot of snorkeling on my cruises and the cost of developing the film does ad up. Bob
I'm a photographer.. I shoot people and landscapes. I did my research on the Olympus underwater cams and IMHO, I don't think they are worth the money.
Sure they are waterproof but; it is recommended that you have Oly replace the seals every year, the picture quality is not that great, and if you don't clean and dry the camera after each use, you could be in a world of trouble.
