What does "tendered" mean?

Can someone tell me what "tendered" means?

Tendering is when the ship cannot dock. They drop anchor and use small boats to "tender" the passengers into the dock.

"tendered"

My husband is in a wheelchair and we were excited that Cococay offered beach wheelchairs. But.....how is he going to get to the beach if the ship is tendered. Does the tender accomadate wheelchairs?

There are strong crew members ready to help get the chair on & off the tender. If you are going to Grand Cayman, this is a tendered port as well, and, it can get rough, so, many times the port is canceled, due to the rough waters...

When we were in Grand Cayman a lady wheelchair user was able to get on and off the tender with assistance no problem.
