Default Gifts for Labadee

Just wondering if it would be appropriate to bring small tokens to the people on Labadee since they are such a poor country. Any suggestions? I was thinking things like combs since they make money braiding hair.

If you want to help them, spend your money there. Giving them gifts will not put food on the table.

I commend you on wanting to help the citizens there. I don't try to bargain the locals down, feeling on this particular island, the money in their pockets means more, then me saving a dollar or two.. This may be a way for you to contribute a bit more.

A friend of mine, when he cruises to Mexico, always brings school supplies, to a school, with info he has researched beforehand. I am not sure bringing anything to the vendors, would reach the people who might need it the most.

The local people you will be in contact with at Labadee will be limited.
It's a private stop for RCCL and as such, the access is limited to people who work for RCCL and the vendors that RCCL allows to peddle their wares there.
As someone said, in all likelyhood the best gift you could give is to spend some money with them and allow them to in turn spend it as they see fit.

It goes without saying that we'll be spending money there on souvenirs. I just remembered a poster saying once, that they gave their nikes or some other brand name item to these people, and they were thrilled to have that item from the states.

When we were in Labadee, I gave a generous tip to the band that was playing and to the guy who found us beach chairs.Of course we also did some shopping, and if everyone who goes to Labadee does the same it will at least help some people.

I know they love ball caps with sports names on them whether NFL,NBA or MLB-no matter if they are used or not. Just look in your closets and see if you aren't wearing some of them.

Hi all,

We were last in Labadee last year on the Grandeur of the Seas, it was our

23 yr old son's first cruise and he INSISTED he was taking his fishing rod.

The fishing rod was the collapsible type and yes.......he took it to Labadee

in his backpack! One of the fellows who work on the beach told him he

couldn't fish where he was(not to worry, he wasn't around ANY people),

but he could show him the right spot to fish, and when his line got

snagged, this fellow dove down and untangled it for him , he spent

over an hour helping our son fish and when they were done, my son gave

him the fishing rod! You would have thought our son gave him a million

dollars! He had never heard of a fishing rod like this and he couldn't wait

to show it off to his family and friends .

I was very proud of my son for doing this....and happy he got to make

someone so happy.

Oh by the way......no he didn't catch anything at all, just made a friend
