Obstructions on Balcony rooms

read somewhere that there are some balconies that have obstructions...? what are they? and are they really detramental and do they really obscure you view?

Hello CruisinPilot,

In answer to your question as to where are the obstructions on the ships. Some of the obstructions are where the life boats are positioned. Are they detramental?, yes, they can be.

All you have to do when you are making reservations for any cruise is ask for an unobstructed view.

Yes, some of them can have life boats totally blocking the view...not worth it in MHO, unless its that or an inside, then its something to consider.

Sometimes it is also the window/balcony washing equipment that is blocking your view. They park them in very specific locations when not in use.

So when you make a "guaranteed" cabin reservation you run the chance of getting an "obstructed" view??

I do not know about a 'guarantee' reservation. Maybe someone else can answer that question.

I believe if you book a balcony guarantee, they can't give you a cabin with an obstructed view. It all depends on what catagory you book, some window cabins do have the obstructed views, so I'd beware of those when booking a guarantee.

Some obstructions you just have a lifeboat underneath you, so you just can see under your balcony, just over it.

Actually we recieved a D1 Superior Oceanview Stateroom for our guarantee. Cabin 7364. dont think there will be any obstructions...that high...

I know when you book "guarantee" you get a lower price for a balcony cabin but you could also end up with a cabin location that's not the greatest.
I might take a chance.It's my first cruise.Maybe they'll take pity on me and upgrade me to "owners suite"

Booked D1 cabin #9550 Liberty ot Seas. Told TA to make sure I did not get an obstructed veiw. This is my first cruise and I took all my questions with me to TA. Has anyone been in or close to this cabin?
