In answer to your question as to where are the obstructions on the ships. Some of the obstructions are where the life boats are positioned. Are they detramental?, yes, they can be.
All you have to do when you are making reservations for any cruise is ask for an unobstructed view.

So when you make a "guaranteed" cabin reservation you run the chance of getting an "obstructed" view??
I believe if you book a balcony guarantee, they can't give you a cabin with an obstructed view. It all depends on what catagory you book, some window cabins do have the obstructed views, so I'd beware of those when booking a guarantee.
Some obstructions you just have a lifeboat underneath you, so you just can see under your balcony, just over it.

Thanks for the replies! I know when you book "guarantee" you get a lower price for a balcony cabin but you could also end up with a cabin location that's not the greatest.
I might take a chance. It's my first cruise.Maybe they'll take pity on me and upgrade me to "owners suite"
Booked D1 cabin #9550 Liberty ot Seas. Told TA to make sure I did not get an obstructed veiw. This is my first cruise and I took all my questions with me to TA. Has anyone been in or close to this cabin?
