Default Alaskan Cruise - Need advice

My husband and I are wanted to take our first Alaskan cruise. We have sailed several times to the Caribbean and have also taken the New England cruise. Is it better to cruise in May or June, weather-wise that is? Do you recommend a specific itinarary? Please help.

Just my two cents, but I would suggest July or August.

The closest you can cruise to the month of July, the better the Alaskan weather will be.

RCI runs 3 basic itineraries for Alaska; Northbound from Vancouver BC to Anchorage, Southbound from Anchorage to Vancouver BC, and round-trip from Seattle to the inside passage. There are some variations at various times of the year. The big question when deciding is when do you want the longest airplane ride? If you don't mind the long flight to Anchorage to start your cruise, do the southbound, if you'd rather save the long airplane ride home from Anchorage to after your cruise, do the northbound. All the Alaska cruises go through the Inside Passage, but not all go further up the coastline to Anchorage. I loved Skagway and Juneau on our Alaska cruise, so don't miss those ports on your itinerary. Good luck!

My choice would be late May or June. I've cruised to Alaska at that time and the weather has been beautiful. I'm going June 5 this year. July and August are the height of the season which means higher prices and bigger crowds.

Weather wise, I would chose the last week in June or the first week or two in July. However, remember that many families (and youngsters) will be on that cruise.

Keep in mind July is one of the most expensive times to take a cruise to Alsaka.

I went end of May we had great weather and saw a lot of whales right of the ship. However, we didn't see a lot of bears. I have a feeling, correct me if I'm wrong, but you see bears when the salmon on running. It's my understanding that happens in July. I live near Yosemite to seeing bears is not a big deal to me. I loved seeing the whales off the ship. I would go end of May beginning of June.

We cruised Alaska in August and weather was great, but we didn't see any bears etc. We also didn't see the eagles nests etc. Wrong time of year. We saw a couple of whales and the Menenhal glacier was awsome. We LOVED Ketchikan. The shopping and the lumberjack show was sooo fun!! My hubby caught a huge salmon just off the dock, they rented a pole and bait right there! We went with Norwegian and had a wonderful time!

We did very end of Jun into July. Weather was great. However, just the day before we were in Juneau, the fog was so bad they had to cancel most of the Helicopter sightseeing trips. June 21 is the longest day of the year so you get the most sunlight then but we had over 18 hours a day of good light a few weeks later.

We cruised Alaska in mid June and the weather was mostly in the mid forties and comfortable. We did hit snow on an excursion into the Yukon over the old gold rush pass.

My first cruise was to Alaska in early July--we were in Skagway for 4th of July. The weather was a mixed bag, heavy rain in Ketchikan, high 70s in Seward and everything in between. We did see every kind of wild life so I would vote for July.

I would book for late June. At that time you have maximum daylight .

Anchorage(Seward or Whittier) really don't have any night just dusk

in late June. This called the "Midnight Sun"

Most cruises from Seattle go on the ocean side of Vancouver Island.

They also by law have to stop in a Non-US port. before entering Seattle .
