Default Anyone cruised Hawaii need advice

1/31/09

Planning to book cruise to Hawaii. What did you think of the ports, ship, excursions and before and after land stay? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I loved Hawaii I would do a cruise with a lot of overnight stays so you can spend as much time as possible there. I would leave from Oahu and do a couple nights per cruise. In Oahu, would see Pearl Harbor and go to Paradise Cove for a real Luau with fire dancers. For the cruise itself; I would want a long stop (overnight) in Maui and a stop in Kauai (it's the garden island).

NCL is the only cruise line that has an all American crew so they don't have to go to an international port. You would spend more time in Hawaii. However, the downside is the NCL ships have had service problems. So you would have to decide what is more important the stops in Hawaii or the ship. For me I would treat the ship as a hotel and go NCL because of the stops and overnights.

Kat, you are so correct about NCL. Did the Pride of Hawaii in 2007. We were not on the ship that much, it just served as a floating hotel. We spent a lot of time on the 4 islands we visited. Many poor service issues. NCL pull the Pride of Hawaii out in 2008 and it is now the NCL Jade. Bob

Hawaii is one of the most beautifull destinations in the world. The cruiselines that do Hawaii will probably all do a good job. Your best bet is to go with a good TA.

I have done Hawaii on one of the Radiance class ships, can't remember which one. I would not consider anything but RCCL. The Hawaii based ships have a very bad reputation.

The problem with the ships based in Hawaii is that the crew is all American and the service is horrible. Bob

I would want to see Maui and Kauai. The Rhapsody of the Seas does a Repositioning cruise Sept 18, 09 it leaves from Vancouver and ends in Oahu. This is a 12 day cruise plus with it ending in Oahu you could spend a couple of post cruise Hawaii days. For most people the flight to Vancouver is shorter than the flight to Hawaii. You would have an overnight in Maui.

Here are the ports:
Departs From Vancouver (Ballantyne Pier), Canada visiting Lahaina, Maui; Hilo, Hawaii; Nawiliwili, Kauai; Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Honolulu, Oahu;

It is not normal for the island to get Hurricanes but it does happen. Here a good site about Hawaiian Hurricanes.
http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/MET/Facu...ter/hurricane/ Here is a link to the average temps and avg Precip for Honolulu.
http://weather.yahoo.com/Honolulu-Ha...tatistics.html In September the high is 89 the low is 74 and Avg. Precip. is .74 inches. So with a normal weather pattern you should have no problem in Hawaii.

Default Hawaii and NCL

Good Morning, I agree with everyones, cruise experiences on NCL. The service is horrible, my best friend did this cruise last year and hated the service on the ship. The ship was not very clean, she found the staff to be rude and unwilling to correct any problems that she had. However, at the end of the cruise they almost solicited for their tips. She found the dining service to be sub par, her state room was often not cleaned etc... she loved Hawaii but next time will just do a land based vaction instead of the cruise experience.

In Oct 2008 we did the round trip cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. The Hawaii cruise was wonderful.

We only booked one tour though the ship. All the rest of the tours were booked with Robert's Travel. Great tours and very inexpensive. If we go back will only book with them. They have a web site that is set up for the cruise lines it is: http://www.gorabbitgo.com/

Robert's buses are all over the Hawaian islands. Saw many of them and spoke to some of the folks and said they were enjoying their tours. Bob
