We leave in just over four weeks and don't know much about this port. Has anyone been there? What shore excursions are best, we love beach excursions are there any worth going to? How safe is Samana? HELP !!!

When we arrived in Samana we walked around the town some and then took a taxi to "Playa Las Galeras" beautiful beach. The cost for a round trip was $10 a person and our driver stayed with us. There was a open-air restaurant on the beach, where he stayed and talked with the locals. The beach itself in Samana, where the ship docked, wasn't pretty at all. Water looked very dirty, but on the other side of the island where "Playa Las Galeras and Cayo Levantado are, it's breath taking. Many people have commented on our photo's of the beach "looking like a postcard". I wish I knew how to post a picture on my comments. If I figure it out, I will send one for you to see. We were there in Dec 2007, and felt very safe. The locals were very nice and not pushy at all.

Shoot! don't know why it came out so blurry. It's not blurry on my computer or on my camera. I have some more pictures on my other computer, I'll try to post later.

Thanks for the info, we were looking at the Cayo Levantado shore excursion, just didn't know how safe it is to go it on our own.
