Probably the oasis since I am too cheap to book a long cruise.

On RCCL, I have to pick the Freedom of the Seas--have it booked for October anyway so I would keep it the same even for a freebee. I really have no desire to go on the Oasis and doubt that I ever will.

Dave,

I'm partial to the Explorer as she's the only vessel we'ver previously sailed (in '06 and '08). At some point we'll probably sail others but we go with extended family members (although only three this trip).

A Voyager Class ship, she and her siblings (Voyager, Adventure, Navigator and Mariner) are in the main, the same layout. One of the major differences lies in the fact that the first three (Voyager, Adventure and Explorer) have steel in the lower half of the balconies whereas the others have glass. Inasmuch as we've only occupied one of the large Category F outboard (211 Sq. Ft. as opposed to the standard outboard cabins of 180 Sq. Ft.) on Deck Nine, that's an issue that's never concerned us. We prefer the size and location of our stateroom (Explorer, Freedom and the Oasis class are some of the few ships that have forward facing stateroom (where, as I'm fond of saying, you can actually see the iceberg before you plow into it). As a matter of fact, we have the same cabin this year as last.

Also the Voyager, Adventure and Explorer do not have the Chops Grill, just Portofino's.

Although larger than the Carnival at 138,000 tons and a passenger load usually in the standard 3,114 range, we've never felt crowded. Explorer (as are all the Voyager, Freedom and soon to be Oasis Class vessels), is truly a destination ship. there is so much to do on that ship that if one gets bored regardless of age, its certainly their own fault.

Even though I'm sure you've seen photographs, the first time you enter the Royal Promenade, most find it nothing less than awe inspiring. the main dining room spread over Decks 3, 4 and 5 on all Voyager Class and subsequent Freedom Class ships are considered by most to be the most beautiful design ever seen on a large passenger vessel. the upper two levels look down upon the first level with the oversized Captain's table being located in the center, covered when not in use, with a table covering sporting the RCL Crown and Anchor logo.

And as you've heard probably a thousand times, don't miss the ice show. Make sure that's one of the first things you do when you board, is to go to the Pursers desk (the large guest relations desk) located on Deck 5 and get your tickets (they're free).

Everyone's tastes are different. I prefer the Voyager Class because of the ambience. While everyone appears to have a grand time (I've personally heard or had few complaints on our first two cruises), I'm sure you'll probably find it far more subdued with less than the "party atmosphere" found on Carnival vessels. As we're in our sixties, I prefer the ambience of Royal Caribbean (i.e., plenty to do but not as "loud"). Whether you like the atmosphere depends of course on your age and preferences.

In any event, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful cruise!

Todd
