Not sure if someone covered this, but I will ask anyway. I am considering bringing my laptop on the ship. I know about the slow connections and the like. I know from past cruises the safe is not large enough to hold the computer. What do people do with it other then leave it in the cabin and risk it being taken? Kind of hard to hide...
Ive been on 3 cruises and have always had my laptop, and its never been missing. I've even left it out on the table when not in the room. No one should be in your room except for your steward.
On the other hand we had a diamond ring and cell phone stolen from our bags on the last night of the cruise and by the time we picked them up at customs and opened them at home.
Always keep valuables in your carry on. As far as as laptops you could leave it out in the open. If you feel more comfortable, put it away in it's case and stow it in a drawer or closet.

We've taken our laptop on every cruise the last few years and havd had no problem. We have used a lockdown cable that fits in the security slot at times.
We bring our laptop all the time. We bring it full of movies and TV shows to watch. We use a laptop lock and tie it around the table so it won't disappear.
While I realize that the only person that should be in your room is the cabin steward, I have seen doors left open when they aren't around and other personnel in the room to make repairs. The cable is just an extra protection.
We bring our laptop all the time and have never had an issue. We don't leave it in the open, usually putting it back in it's case and stowing under the dresser.
We leave cameras out too sometimes and have been fortunate in that they have not been taken.
Now, if you could work on getting "free" wi-fi, that would be cool!!!!!
My friend brought her laptop on the cruise and had no problem. She had downloaded the program Skype and it worked fine in MOST places. She did a video call to home in our state room. Of course she bought a package from RCCl. Hope this helps.
I echo most of the above comments. I've taken my laptop on two previous cruises and will be taking it again this time.
I know I should put it under the bed or in the closet but I seem to always forget.....caused by an affliction known as being "brain dead" and which occurs with age. I also always leave my binoculars on the shelf of the large window looking over the bow of the ship. So far, nothing's been touched. That doesn't mean, however, that you shouldn't take reasonable precautions while you're still young enough to remember them.
My daughter lost the key to the lap lock, she was in Australia she had to find a hack saw, and then we had to hire a lock smith who had difficulty removing the stub. I rather loose the laptop.
