Default sodas on the shiP?

Hi Everyone. We need your help. DH and I are cruising for the first time in a few weeks. I am an avid diet coke fan. however, i have heard the sodas on the ship are flat. that is one question, are the sodas on the ship carbonated and do they taste good? Secondly, are we allowed to bring soda on board? Cans or plastic bottles? Thanks in advance!

I am a PEPSI fan and not Coke, and we bought a soda card for the unlimited sodas and they were fine. The fountain sodas were even dispensed at the 35 degrees and didnt even need any ice. So I say get them.

You can bring sodas on board, I saw a whole case checked in as luggage.

If your cruise is 7 days or less I have a card that entitles you to get your soda card. I tried to use it on my 9day but was not allowed. I will sell it for less than you can buy your soda card from Royal.

spike, we always bring our own Pepsi in our carry on as well as a few bottles of water. You can also get more in the ports.

You can bring soda and water onboard in cans or plastic bottles.
I haven't heard complaints of the soda being flat. Most of the complaints are that the soda is overpriced and selection is limited.

Just returned from Freedom of the Seas- We drink a lot of diet pop so we purchased the soda package. I'd say it was well worth it for us. We would fill up the insulated cups (that they give you when you sign up) wherever we went on the ship or else we'd show them our Sea Pass and they'd give us a large plastic cup of pop. It was always carbonated and we never had to wait for more than a minute to get a refill....with more than 3000 people onboard that was impressive.

Well, think of it this way...how much diet coke do you drink? One or two a day? Perhaps calculate it and see if it's worth it to bring a six pack bottle or to get the package? I'm sure most nights everyone drinks so soda may not even be worth it. Just a thought.

I like soda from a can, no fountain and no plastic bottles(and no diet!!!!!). When you pay for your sodas you get cans, when your on the plan you get bar gun soda. I would much rather pay for each soda. I found myself drinking the apple and orange juice for breakfast and the lemonade for lunch so it wasn't like I was drinking 20 sodas a day. maybe a few with dinner. Besides that sipee cup they give you just isn't my style. BTW they serve Coke not Pepsi, either is fine with me as long as it's from a can and cold.

I agree with you a soda from a Can, and we try to bring our own on board.

Soda are NOT FREE anywhere on the ship.

You either buy a unlimited soda card or pay by the glass.

I switched to ice tea for the 9 day cruise - it is free. If I wanted soda, I figured I would just pay but the glass, but honestly did not miss it at all.

Here is the deal. I just returned from Voyager of the Seas in Europe. If you bought the soda card, the cokes and diet cokes came from the soda fountain. If you bought soda during a meal or at a bar you got a brand new can of coke or diet coke and a glass of ice. Royal did not allow any booze or soda to be brought onboard. When it went thru the scanner after you re-boarded they would tag it and you picked it up at the end of the cruise.

I find the soda from the fountain not the same as the can, I rather pay more and drink less soda.

AF1 --- Did you type that right?
RCCL wouldn't allow soda to be brought onboard?
This is a first!

they didn't on this europe cruise. Every bag was checked in the scanner and any liquids (booze, soda, etc) were tagged until the end of the cruise. I figure they want you to drink soft drinks and booze onboard. I did not see any bottles of water in the sealed off area.

I just came back from RCI Rhasody: Soda package, NOT worth it. I recommend just buy sodas as you go unless you are a true addict.

I agree, soda package not really worth the money. I drink maybe two cans of soda on the ship per day.

Let me clarify my previous post. I was on Voyager of the Seas in Europe for 12 days in May. The price I quoted was how much the ship charged for this cruise. I do not know what they charge in the United States or Caribbean for sodas by the can. I assume it it around the same price. You also have to add the 15% tip to the can price.

You don't have to drink fountain soda. They do sell cans of Diet Coke. Reasonable amounts of soft drinks can be brought aboard. To me this has always meant a 12 pack, and in your carry-on luggage not your checked baggage. Others may have a different view and may have carried more aboard without problems.
