My first balcony was on my second cruise, and I've never cruised in a cabin without one since! Enjoy!

Congrats you will be hooked from now on. We love to leave the door ajar while we sleep to listen to the sound of the ocean. We will be on the same ship later that month so you will have to let us know how your cruise went.

Knowing full well that when I finally break down and book a balcony I will never be able to go back to an inside cabin... I have fought the good fight and haven't caved in yet.
You on the other hand have just raised your cost of cruising forever after.
I hope it's worth it !!!!!!!!!
Have a great cruise : )

I'll tell you this much, I almost didn't book the cruise for the following reason; I started the booking process, was assigned my INSIDE room cabin, went to pay and the site said the room was no longer available.

I was HOT! So I called Expedia, (RCCL didn't have the price on a Category L the expedia "said" was avail.), so they start reviewing what's available and the only thing that was left was only $100 less than a balcony, after they applied the residency promo, the $100 expedia credit and the $100 onboard credit.

We'll see how it goes, we'll see if I'm hooked.

Default Balcony Cabins

We started booking balcony cabins about five years ago. Sometimes we don't use the balcony much, other times we're out there all the time. We especially like a balcony on a cruise with a lot of sea days.

Be careful, though.......once you get hooked on a balcony, the next step will be to book a suite.

We got hooked on a balcony when we sailed on the Infinity in 2003, and now that's all we book.

Enjoy your cruise.

I'm starting to wonder if all of these people who think a balcony is the greatest thing since the wheel.... if they all are smokers?
If I was still a smoker I would see more value in that balcony.

Life unfolds perfectly! Congrats on the balcony and, at $100 above what you were going to pay, great deal!

Like Addicted2, I leave my balcony door open at night when sailing the Caribbean, it is wonderful. I don't spend much time on it during the day but I do love fresh air.

Enjoy your cruise.

I used to smoke but quit before I got my first balcony. The first cruise I took after RCCL changed to no smoking in the cabins, there were a lot of smokers on their balconies. But the four cruises since, not so much.

I wouldn't say it is the greatest thing since the wheel, but since we have had a suite on all but the first cruise we have been on, there is no better experience than being able to stand outside on your own private balcony wether it is first thing in the morning (and what a plus it is to be able to know what the weather is and to watch the ship pull into port early in the morning while still in your p.j's) last thing at night, while pulling into port or leaving ports and any time in between. And no we are not smokers and will never cruise without a balcony. Being able to leave the door open at night to listen to the ocean is one cruise experience I will never do without either. We do spend a fair bit of time in our stateroom and falling asleep at night listening to the sounds of the ocean and looking out at the moonlight and stars is an awesome experience, one everyone should try at least once. It is very romantic too.

My first couple of cruises was inside or outside staterooms mainly
because of the price. 3 cruises ago I had my first Balcony on the Westerdam. since then I book only Balcony staterooms. you won`t want to go back after a balcony stateroom.

8) I'm another one who has resisted the urge for fear of getting hooked. I'm also afraid if i spend the extra $$ on a balcony, I'll feel like I should be spending more time there and less out and about. 8)

trust me, 8) the price is well worth it, 8) when on your first night, after you have come back from your evening activities and you slide open your balcony door and hear the waves and see the moon reflecting on the water and then you snuggle up with your cabin mate on your balcony...yea baby, it's worth it

I'm a bit clausterphobic so never have booked an inside, but sometime I am going to do it and see how it goes. I like a balcony, certainly prefer it, but I have no problem switching between an outside and a balcony, depending on price. A balcony for a hot destination is quite nice (a get away from the crowd at the pool), but for a cool one, it's not that important to me. I like light, the more the better, especially in the morning -- I'm afraid an inside would feel a little cavey -- but an outside can fit the bill. I am not sure, OP, that you will be necessarily hooked. Also if you take a port intensive cruise, then, imo, it is just a luxury I can live without since there will be little time spent there.

Having said all that, if the price difference was only 100 pp, I'd take the balcony every time, but that usually isn't the case.

They cost a bit more but are "so so" worth it. Waking up to the sunrise or having a cocktail watching the sunset is spectacular. You will not be disappointed.

Sounds like you got a great deal! Congrats!

I had my first balcony for my Alaska cruise and loved, loved, loved it!
It's like having an extra room. We used it a lot. It's great for taking a break from the crowds but still relaxing with an awesome view.

Am I hooked? Probably. DH is definitely hooked.

Is it worth the extra $? It depends. How much extra? And I probably wouldn't get a balcony for a cruise of less than 7 nights. I wouldn't feel like I'd get my money's worth.

Come back and tell us what you thought!

one of the side benefits of a balcony..while your DW/GF is getting ready for dinner, it's so much easier for you to wait on the balcony which gives her space and she does not feel that she is being rushed..of course there are some men that want to go to the casino or the bar while the better half is getting prepared. .

a balcony is also nice if the balcony next to you has 2-4 beautiful, single women who like to sunbathe on their balcony or have a pre evening drink before dinner that they can invite you over, while your DW/GF is getting dressed..that always seems to speed up the process

all seriousness, as most posters have indicated, once you sailed with a balcony, it's sort of hard to break that habit..more days at sea, better reason for a balcony..port intensive or shorter then 7 days, OV or Inside

We sail the Adventure at the end of September so please post a review when you are back. You will be hooked and will never cruise without a balcony again. It is a completely different cruise experience with a balcony, one you will enjoy! We have always had at least a balcony on all (except our first) cruises, most in suites. And there is no way we would ever book anything less. Enjoy your cruise.

I will definitely let you guys know what I think. I only once booked an outside cabin and I thought having just a hole in the wall was not worth the extra money since it was so high up you had to literally stand on the bed to look out of it.

I like to watch my GF get ready.. she's gorgeous!! lol.. so maybe I can watch from the balcony. I can only imagine some of the fun we'll have on that thing!!!!

EMG...now you are in the right frame of mind ..it's something about being on your balcony at 0230 am watching the moon reflect off the water..the rhythm of the ship as it moves thru the waves...the fresh air, the open sky..just make sure you tip your room steward on the first day to get extra pillows

the bigger the ship, the better to have a balcony to get away from the crowds and have private moments..also great for late snacks and early breakfast with just the 2 of you...you'll quickly forget about the extra $$$$ you had to spend
