Default Labadee & Ocho Rios on Freedom

We just booked Freedom Of The Seas for this September 13 and BOY did we get a great deal. I got to use my newly attained "senior" status discount and my TA was offering free paid gratuities AND an on board cabin credit.
We're stoked !!!!!!

But we've never been to Labadee or Ocho Rios before.
A friend told us that climbing a waterfall in Ocho is a waste of time and money... and she said that lifeguards at Labadee won't let you snorkel unless you're wearing some sort of life vest which they want to rent to you.
She said that there's a cool Martgueritaville to hang out at within walking distance of the dock.

So what's the scoop good people? All advice is worthwhile and appreciated.

We went to these ports on the mariner. Labadee is great if you want a relaxing beach day. It was so hot when we were there we were in the water 95% of the time. We had a great time there. The buffet is decent but it's nice not having to worry about money. You can also do parasailing and rent jet skis which I am sure you know. We didn't try any of that, just a nice day at the beach. In ocho rios we got a day pass to the sandals resort and it was really nice there. Great food and great drinks, all included. The margaritaville is really nice with a cool beach area, plus lots of shopping in the same area. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Yes Freedom class is gorgeous indeed... and Suz is not exactly backward compatible, although I think she would be pleased with a Voyager class ship.

We needed to do a cruise before the 2010 Oasis adventure : )
I couldn't pass up the great deal.

I'd love to know more about that Sandals day pass....
Hmmmm is Negril far from Ocho Rios?
Hedonism day pass ?????? HMMMMMMMMMMM

My dad and I went on Liberty last year, and we went to Labadee. Labadee is really beautiful. If you are in for an adventure, then I suggest The Dragon's Breath Zip Line. It's a 2600 ft. zip line over the ocean. It's awesome and you get an amazing view of the island as you're going 40-50mph on the zip line. Besides the zip line, you can rent beach mats and lay out in the water, do some historic walking tours, snorkel, kayak, and parasail. There isn't much to do but like I said, it's really beautiful. I'm going on Freedom in a couple weeks, and Labadee is one of the ports. So I'm super excited about it!

Hope you guys have an amazing cruise!

They now have a zip line in Labadee which I hear is fun. Have done the wave runner excursion there, thats also a ton of fun. All in all, a great beach day.

Both ports are fun. I really like Labadee, the Bar-b-Que is great. It's just a fun day at RCI's private beach. I hear RCI is constructing a pier for the larger ships. No more tendering.

It will be great to have a pier in Labadee. If weather is rough, its a stop that sometimes get missed, having a pier will eliminate that problem.

Whoever your friend is, DON'T LISTEN TO HER!

"Doin' the Falls" in Ocho Rios is our favorite thing in the world! We are in our mid fifties and still love it. The Rain Forest is Absolutely B-utiful, and the falls is something you will talk about for years. Go with friends so that someone can take lots of pictures.

On Labadee, I go snorkeling out at Dragons-Breath Point every time (4 or 5 now) and have NEVER been told that I need a vest. You should have a great time there, take your own gear, and lots of sun screen.

Hope This Helps.

Thanks to all for your advice... concerning Dragons Breath Point.
I read somewhere (possibly on Royals site) that swimming at Dragons Breath is not recommended due to sea urchins.
(That was all Suz had to hear! She freaked )

Been to Labadee twice never heard of a sea urchin problem. Just make sure to wear water shoes the bottom going into the water is kind of rocky and hard to walk on barefoot. It is a great beach day but the sun is strong so wear sunscreen.

Last visit to Labadee I did get the sea urchins in my feet, not fun. Went to the first aid station and they provided us with tweezers and needles to get them out, never heard of that before. Just be sure to wear water shoes and you should be fine.
