Default Dollars or Euros?

What currency is used on the ship on European cruises, dollars or euros? And if it's dollars can you get euros from the ship to use ashore? Also what currency should your travellers cheques be ? Thank you.

The ships currency will probably be US $ Which ship are you taking? You can get currency on the ship, but if you can avoid that I would at all costs, killer exchange rate. Get some from home before you leave. What are you using TCs for? Only the ship will cash them so US $ would be good. Don't try and use TC anywhere else in europe, no one wants them.

Your best bet is to get some Euros before you leave and then use your ATM card to get cash.

We bought small amounts of Euros and pounds from our bank but used our credit card for major port purchases because it is a better exchange rate and Capital One doesn't charge you a fee. We gave any leftovers to our tour guides for tips.

I agree that no one in Europe wnts TC's. ATM cards are the way to go.I have use mine in several european countries, and never had any problems.

Sorry,I should have mentioned that we will be on Splendour of the Seas. It looks like ATM card is the way to go. I'll pick up some Euro before we go. Thanx for the advice.
