The opinions of those who are in the middle of their cruises with the taste of the food still on the tip of their tongues says alot for the debate over the taste and quality of the food on RCL

Good point except that CQ is a self confessed "non foodie"

Okay so maybe she can't rate the desserts, but we know she eats salads, seafood and loves the escargot (and ice cream cones.)
Sharam 72 on the Monarch rates the food very good while mid cruise too.

i'm surprised to see so many of you say that the wait staff look at you funny if you say you don't like your meal/ask for something else/ask for seconds.

in my experience, if one of us at the table cannot finish (usually because we are too full) the waiter comes by to ask if the meal was okay and if we wanted something else.

I have had the same experience. The wait staff has allways been eager to please everyone. We never had bad wait staff in any of our cruises.

I was on a nine night cruise on EOS in April. There was one night I was not crazy about the choices and ordered that steak thats always on the menu... It was awful! The other eight nights the food was good to excellent.

Portofino was great!!!!!

Johnny Rockets was really good!!!!

The pizza in the Cafe Promenade was very good. I had three or four slices a day.

For breakfast and lunch the buffet was fine(go with the dogs/stay away from the burgers)

I ordered several entrees and appetizers every night and finished everything, I ate much much more than I would normally eat so I guess what I'm saying is the food is good.

Was it as good as my favorite restaurants from home?.....No, but still very good.

I will be on the Liberty OTS in november, So I will pay attention to the qualiy of the food, and post my opinion afterwards. The first time I sailed the Liberty the food was fine.

Just off Freedom 2 weeks ago, they had an unbelievable warm melting flourless chocolate cake that was to die for. And the overall food quality was quite good, with just a few exceptions here and there.

I've read so many posts on food over the years..I've NEVER
ever sent a dish back (even when it was substandard) as I
was able to eat some of it and usually had enough with appetizers
and maybe soup or salad.

However, just got back from the Monarch...I've read posts that the
food and service on the Monarch is above average.

Our first night was a trainwreck at our table. We were absolutely
the last to get served our entree...the next table was already
eating dessert. All of the food to 8 diners, arrived lukewarm and
most was absolutely cold. My steak that was supposed to be rare
to med. rare was so overcooked it was gray...and mashed potatoes
were hard and cold. So for the first time I sent it back...I got a new
steak...cooked rare and everything was hot & delicious The head waiter said
it was the waiter's fault...he couldn't keep up and didn't ask for help.
While we were a group of 16 women taking a networking cruise, this
set the stage for lots of complaining thru the next 3 days...UGh...not
a pleasant experience. But in all of my over 20 cruises, this was
the worst...probably just a fluke tho, with that waiter.

The head waiter told us that he would serve us personally the next
night...which he did not do...again not a good to do if you don't mean
it, don't say it.

I recommended RCI to this group and was embarrassed with the MDR
I did explain that we got a excellent rate and this is one of the older
ships...have to compare apples to apples. Some understood...some
just didn't get it.

Just got off the Legend of the Seas yesterday (12-day eastern Med — our honeymoon!) and had great service and very good food. It wasn't spectacular but it was very nice, and the company was great.

Looks like it may largely be a matter of (bad) luck if you get bad food/service.

Just got back from Splendour and the food and service was excellent in all respects. Much better than C.C.L. We're converts to R.C.I. now.

Has anyone ever tried that fillet mignon that you pay extra for? Is it worth the 15 bucks or whatever it is? If it's anything like the fillet mignon in Portofinos I'd say it is on a night where nothing really jumps out at you from the menu.

Yes, I'd also like to know about the $15 filet.

Mike-Suz: anything else you'd care to mention about the
Freedom. I'm leaving on the 11th and so anxious. Loved
her the first time. Is she show any signs of aging?

food is food..... you will definately not go hungry. If you do, it's your own fault. I learmed many years ago that no matter what they call it, there is NO way that they can prepare "gourmet" food for 3000 people..... And I don't know that I have ever had gourmet food really....

Just back from the Freedom and I'm happy to say that
there were many more hits than misses. Just a few dishes
that weren't up to par, but all in all...good to very good. Chops
as usual was excellent, but Portofino just so-so. MDR and
Windjammer were usually good, especially lunch and dinner.
We had an experienced waiter (I think that makes a huge
difference) and when we ordered a steak rare...it was rare.
Food was served hot or very close to it.

Lou, sorry I didn't see your posted question to us sooner.
Glad you enjoyed your Freedom cruise... we adore the ship and everything on it. I have to admit we were also disappointed in the food at Portofino. Other than that, the service was steller in every regard.

In three weeks I will be able to taste the food on a RCCL ( again ), so I can judge for myself.

I hope they still have the lamb shank.

Freedom 10/11...Lamb shank was excellent. Escargot was surprisingly
not good...the worst I've ever had on RCI. I look forward to it every
cruise, but this time terribly disappointed. Hopefully just a bad night.

CQ....will be looking forward to your comments on the Oasis. I'm excited and I'm not even booked. There was a picture in our (Sarasota) business
section of the paper today with facts, etc. about the other queen of
cruising.....the Oasis.

Yea...I always look forward to the Escargot and was so disappointed.
It was greasy and not good for sopping up the buttery sauce...the best
part. It just has to be a momentary fluke.

Will anxious await your Oasis report.
