I canot believe it myself, but finally I am back to cruising on Royal Caribbean once again. Almost immediately after I returned from my Mariner cruise in 9/07, I went on your site and was viewing the recent posts, etc.
I expressed that I was a smoker and a reply came from a gentleman with no class whatsoever, who let everyone know that I have no class...
What a difference one presidential election and a stock market that almost collapsed can make.
I was so offended that I stopped reading and responding.
However, just wanted to tell you all that I am back...
Welcome back Diane.
I'm not sure I understand the connection between our failed economy, the presidential election and being insulted because you smoke.
But welcome back

He's probably one of those people that says, "First available" when requesting a table for dinner too. I love how some people are highly offended when a smoker has no control over the flow of their smoke stream, yet, they will eat dinner right next to them, if it means getting their food that much quicker!
I am literally laughing right now, because I just moved out to Las Vegas this past November, and find that more and more nonsmokers in the casinos are complaining about cigarette smoke. Yet, when they want to play a machine, they sit right next to a smoker, and we all know that there are about 20 of those same denomination machines located in one single casino that they could play, instead of right next to the smoker. They sit there anyway and wave their hands around in the air. Granted, I can see if the smoker was deliberately blowing the smoke in their face or direction, but we have no control over the ventilation system and which way the smoke goes. If you don't like, play elsewhere...

I stoped smoking on june 3rd of 1983. The money that I have saved pays for my cruises.

I actually quit smoking on July 30, 1999. Over the course of the next 16 months, I gained no less than 75 pounds. My doctor, after giving me a special diet to follow, that will guarantee a 10 pound weight loss in 2 weeks, weighed me to find out that, even though, I carefully and strictly followed this diet, I actually gained two pounds, made the decision that I resume smoking - naturally at a very reduced amount.
I am happy to say that I have only smoked 5 cigarettes a day since 2000 and have lost the 75 pounds and kept it off for 5 years now.
Diane
That is why I still smoke - not because I do not have any class.
Diane wow 75 pounds!! Good for you! That is great! 8)

Ya know... that's VERY dangerous what you wrote up there. My entire adult life I weighed 195 lbs give or take a pound here or there.
In November of 2007 I quit smoking and I have subsequently put on 45 pounds. I don't like it, I'm not comfortable in my own body anymore and reading that you went back to smoking no more than 5 cigarettes a day and have lost your 75 pounds...... boy....
All my attempts at dieting so far have failed.... so yea... what you wrote is calling to me....

Please, please, please...Do not go back to smoking. Going back took off the first 15 pounds, Weight Watchers and a lot of saying "no" did the rest.
It took from January 7, 2004 to December 17. 2004 to lose the additional
60 pounds. I also checked in with my doctor while doing this and the advice was nice and slow. That is the key...nice and slow...
Do I regret going back to smoking, financially that is a no-brainer.
Although I only smoke a carton a month, it is still much more expensive that it was in the past.
Just remember that the reason you put on weight when you quit is because your metabolism either stops entirely or slows down to a crawl.
This is from a physician - I am not a physician.
I also went back because of demeaning comments from my husband.
It was hard to be called fat a-- and that is the mild comment.
Do what you feel is right and please check with your doctor, first!
Thanks for that reply Diane... I can't imagine going back to smoking after the hell I was put through trying to quit. Suz is a registered nurse... we quit together. She tells me that smoking burns 300 calories a day and when you stop.... POW....
I won't go back to smoking... I'd rather die a fat ass than go out not being able to breathe.

Once I stopped smoking, I kew that I would never go back. For those of you who still smoke, you are keeping people working in growing tobbaco and making ciggarets. You are also paying more than your share of taxes. I had no quarrel with polite smokers.
For those that want to quit. just bite the bullet and go cold turkey. If you take drugs or cut down on your smokes it will nt work.

This is absolutely none of my business but I just can't help but comment on this remark - did you not tell him you had a way to get rid of a 175 lbs really quick - then call a good divorce lawyer.
I am an ex-smoker. I will not put down anyone who smokes. As for the weight gain - yup I did. I've learned to live with the extra 30 lbs. If my DH made a remark like that he would be rid of the first 20 really quick when he found his head in a dark place.

Certainly none of my business either, but I have to agree with Felix the Cat. I cringed when I read what your husband said to you.
As for the smoking during a cruise, on my last one, one of the main reasons I booked a balcony cabin on AOS was so I COULD smoke with (hopefully) bothering fewer people than if I smoked in a designated smoking area. Well, the woman in the cabin next to me should have won an award - for over dramatically emphasizing her words of disgust (loudly) to make sure that my husband & I heard her. I truly do understand that she (OBVIOUSLY) didn't like the second-hand smell/smoke so I did try to be mindful to not smoke if I could tell that she was on her balcony. If she came out & I was already out, I tried my best to blow the smoke in another direction but, the wind blows where it will. Sailing on AOS next month and I honestly hope I don't bother my neighbors this trip. Maybe I'll take a paper bag out with me and blow the smoke into it.

Dianeteacher407: welcome back and congrats on the weight loss.
Mike-Suz: you both always have great advice.
Manuel: having quit over 20 years ago myself, I can relate to saving $$$$$ for cruises;
thecruisequeen: tell it like it is.
Dianeteacher407: that "original" A--Hole is nothing but!!!!! Being a "gentlemen" doesn't mean he has class.
Hi all just wanted to comment I'm a non smoker and hubby was a smoker he quit about 10 years ago. Quitting smoking is a hard thing to do. I saw what he went through. He was moody and ate a gallon of ice cream in one day. His mood swings drove me crazy. But I'm proud of him for stopping because it was so difficult. My hubby was classy before and after he was smoking. I applaud those people who have given up smoking it's not an easy thing to do.
I don't care if people smoke around me it doesn't bug me one way or another. As long as you don't catch the cruise ship on fire it's all good.
